I am taking the four week sleep challenge. I am currently working at SMC where may sleep patterns are unpredictable. I try to get 6-8 hours of sleep and a short nap during the day. So far today I have not been able to get much of a nap.


Here is how to keep a sleep diary:

Day One - July 9, 2013

What time did you wake up today? 7:15
What time are you lying down to go to sleep? 12:30
What, if any, was your bedtime routine? brush teeth, pray, some tv
What were the last food(s) you consumed tonight? waffle
Did you exercise today? walked around campus (part of job)
Did you consume any alcoholic beverages today? no
Did you consume any caffeinated drinks or foods today? 2 cups of coffee
Did you take any medications (prescription and/or over-the-counter) today? no
Did you take any naps today?no
What types of stressors did you encounter today, and what types do you expect to encounter tomorrow? camp related - campers leaving, late lunch; 7/10 - counselors who are travelling; weather
How hungry did you feel today?2
How awake did you feel today? 3
How irritable did you feel today?1

July 23
I am now home from all my summer travels which included a mini-missions trip to Pennsylvania;sightseeing in NYC; and, two and half weeks of music camp. During that time I did a lot of walking.
My sleep patterns also changed a lot. During the school year I go to bed between 10 and 11 and get up at 5. During the summer I go to bed between 12 and 1:30 am and get up between 7 and 8:30 am. Some days I could take naps which helped with short nights.
Now that I am almost back to my regular routine it will be much easier to get into a consistent sleep pattern.
Hopefully, I can be more consistent about my sleep journal as well. I am not very good at journalling. emoticon

July 26
Sleep is getting better - not waking up as much in the middle of the night and getting at least 6 hours of sleep.

Thankful to have another night of good sleep even though I woke up earlier than I wanted to. emoticon

Had a few nights where I woke up in the middle of the night. My dog Frank (German shepherd) has tried to sleep with me a couple of nights, too. emoticon
Last night was better - made it through the night without waking up.

Back to school this week which means another change in sleep. Still trying to get to bed at a decent time (between 10 and 11) but will soon have to shift to earlier wake up times.
