fact or fiction

Yesterday read an article that not only suggested one exercise first thing in the AM, before eating, but that you should also weight over 30 min after exercise to refuel.

Today, read a SP article that one absolutely SHOULD NOT do that

The other day read an article that muscle building/resistance exercises are the best way to lose weight. Cardio will use calories, but that those calories will come from both fat and lean muscle tissue.

Today, read that jogging / running is the absolutely BEST way to lose weight.

okay, we're all different, and there is no one size fits all. But then, by the time you've done what the "experts" suggest long enough that you realize its not working, who do you blame? certainly not the experts, one blames oneself as a failure.

Here, in this house, we start work at 8am. During the summer that gives me time to walk the dog, make breakfast, eat, exercise (not necessarily in that order), do what ever chores there are, and get to work. Finish work at 5pm, another dog walk, cook dinner. sit for 1/2 an hour, another dog walk, and then its about 1.5 hours before bed time. Winter, first dog walk doesn't happen until the sun is up at 7am! and when I'm up, the dog is up and wants her walk NOW. Who can blame her? but walking in the dark is not a good idea - no street lights and we have coyotes, javelin, bob cats, and once in a while mountain lions and bears predawn.

Bottom line is, exercise is morning time. and I can't eat before exercise. Period. not an apple. not a piece of toast. NOTHING. So it may not be what's best for my body and weight loss, but that's what I got

GOOD JOB on awareness of your personal clock.

We all have to listen to our bodies. I cant be awake at 5am to doesnt work for me. But, It is a VERY good idea to at least hydrate with plain water before and after your workout. You should at least try one serving of fruit; could be some strawberries, cherries, melon, grapes, 1 oz nuts.....but at the LEAST drink 8 oz of water before and after the workout. You can have a healthy breakfast anytime after your workout.

By the way, JOGGING, is NOT the best way to loose weight. You can do more research in Sparkpeople for more information. There are 2 parts to a fitness program; Cardio and Strengthening. Do not work on BOTH the same day and make sure you have at least one day off per week. Jogging is GREAT but it should not be the only tool in your toolbox.

Think about the Biggest Looser. There are on that treadmill or lifting some serious weights. Cardio and Strengthening complement each other. Also, if anyone ONLY jogs then other joints and muscles are overlooked.

You should NOT overeat before a workout.

we all have to do what is best for our based on our schedule. No one body is the same as another so I don't think there is a formula that works for everyone.
