Count Nutrition, not Calories

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

I read somewhere a small snipitt of advice, and it was to count nutrition, not calories. What a simple concept! Instead of worrying about my calories, I wanted to focus on eating for nutrition.

Well, last night my husband and I went on a date. We had steaks, salads, and potato wedges. I coudn't finish all of my steak or wedges, and the cucumbers on the salad tasted so fresh! We then went to the movies where I ordered a kids pack (kids size popcorn and soda), my husband said it was so I could get the cool little dispicable Me toy that comes on the top of the cup--but really it's all I needed. This morning I woke up knowing I needed to eat something even though my brain and stomach wasn't wanting any part of it. So I grabbed some apple wedges out of the fridge and choked down a handfull. It wasn't a lot, but it is a start.

I also bought a few new pairs of shorts last night while we were waiting for the movie to start. I started looking in the womans section and quickly realized there are no cute shorts there. So I moved on to the juniours sizes--and I was actually able to fit into a juniours size COMFORTABLY! I am hoping they will be too big next year, but even if they are not, they are super cute. My husband calls them "shorty shorts"

While I am tired today, I am still hoping to get my lifting in and my cardio. Scratch that. I WILL get my lifting in today, and we WILL be playing volleyball tonight if the rain holds off.

One day at a time pascal!

I enjoyed your blog. How wonderful to eat with nutrition in mind. How wonderful to have a fun evening with your spouse. How wonderful to get new clothes from the junior department. Lots of pluses for one evening, not to mention getting a movie to boot. LOL. emoticon

You are absolutely right about food! Funny, how when I have a whole lot of choices, I tend to stick with same foods for quite a while. When I could only eat certain foods, I kept " cheating." Does that mean that simply having more choices leaves me feeling not deprived? Nice reminder for all of us! emoticon

I agree with Zumba girl above.

I told him, if you had a teenage daughter, would you let her out of the house, when it doesn't over your rear, even when your standing up???

I think it's rude and tempting boys... emoticon

I love the concept of counting nutrition and not calories.. its basically clean eating. But the thing is in the beginning and for a long long while true food addicts cannot do this unless they cut out a ton of food groups like cheese, pasta, bread and those things are healthy too in moderation. Counting calories gives a food addict, like myself, accountability far beyond my own mind/choices. Maybe one day when I DON'T cheat and give myself too much cheese or bread on my plate (knowing I didn't do enough exercise that day to deserve it) ... then maybe from that day on I'll be able to count nutrition and not calories but for now I have to stick to counting calories for consistent weight loss.

Fantastic!! LOL it's so sadly true that women's pants/shorts leave something to be desired. Once I lost enough weight, I immediately switch to shopping in the junior's section for a lot of my jeans and so forth...plus those clothes tend to be cheaper! The only downside is that I have to watch the booty coverage, because apparently fashion designers have decided either that teenagers have no butts, or they want their butts to hang out for all the world to see. :)
