Goodbye Mom

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

My mom was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer almost 2 years ago. We were told it was not curable but it was treatable and her oncologist promised us several months with very good quality of life. She definitely got that, she was able to live with me and enjoy grandchildren and great granddaughter for much longer than even her Dr thought she would. We baked together, enjoyed 2 additional years of holidays and 2 birthdays. On Sept 27th Mom would have been 82, however she succumbed to her cancer yesterday. She did not suffer, we had hospice for her and the nurses worked very hard to regulate the drugs that would control her pain and anxiety. They did a really great job and she was able to pass on quietly and peacefully. She is with my Dad now but we will all miss her greatly. My younger brother was here with me to help and that was such a godsend. His wife insisted he come up even though they would miss their anniversary trip. I can't thank her enough. I am doing okay, still a bit numb but I got a chance to prepare myself. I am grateful for the additional time we had and feel truly blessed that I had that time and that her passing was relatively easy.

Oh, Frannie...I'm so sorry. I'm just seeing this after having been MIA from Spark again. I'm sure it's a comfort that your mom went peacefully and knowing that she was loved. My prayers are with you and your family.

So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Oh that darn cancer!!! It seems to be taking sooooooooooo many of our friends and family!!

We've lost so many to it and most suffer terribly until the end so I'm glad to hear your mom had expert care so she didn't.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so very sorry for your pain and sadness. At the same time, I feel joy that you had the extra time with your mom. That's priceless. Something many folks don't get. Now you have two more years of wonderful memories made with your mom. Thank you for sharing some of them here with all of us. Anytime you find yourself really missing your mom, just look to your heart. She's right there with you . . . always. God bless you and your entire family. May you find nothing but comfort in His never ending peace.
