My mom was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer almost 2 years ago. We were told it was not curable but it was treatable and her oncologist promised us several months with very good quality of life. She definitely got that, she was able to live with me and enjoy grandchildren and great granddaughter for much longer than even her Dr thought she would. We baked together, enjoyed 2 additional years of holidays and 2 birthdays. On Sept 27th Mom would have been 82, however she succumbed to her cancer yesterday. She did not suffer, we had hospice for her and the nurses worked very hard to regulate the drugs that would control her pain and anxiety. They did a really great job and she was able to pass on quietly and peacefully. She is with my Dad now but we will all miss her greatly. My younger brother was here with me to help and that was such a godsend. His wife insisted he come up even though they would miss their anniversary trip. I can't thank her enough. I am doing okay, still a bit numb but I got a chance to prepare myself. I am grateful for the additional time we had and feel truly blessed that I had that time and that her passing was relatively easy.
