Killing Two Birds With One Stone~

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

Don't worry animal lovers, I would never hurt a bird-it's a figure of speech.
In my house we all eat all different things. And believe me if I could change that-I would!! Dwayne eats pretty healthily, but he can get away with the piggy treat foods he eats as snacks. Because of his very strenuous job. emoticon emoticon
Sammy, my lovely 16 year old eats everything that is bad for her. She is in a bad emotional state right now. She is totally not looking after herself, and won't let me tell her that she is not looking after her health. She has put on about thirty kilos in about three years. She won't eat her veges, and no matter how I try to tell her to she will not listen. She loves cooking with cheese or pasta or fried things. emoticon emoticon
And when she cooks pasta she uses a lot of cheese. I try to get her to use less, but no matter what I say she won't listen. And with her emotional state so fragile, I do have to tread carefully. So tonight when I was about to cook tea, Sammy asked me to cook chips with the mince which I was going to make into patties. Dwayne won't eat mince made into a stew. So I decided I would try and make Samantha a pasta dish out of the mince. I managed to sneak a little grated carrot, onion and a tiny bit of pumpkin in. And I gave her a meat patty with the pasta and mince dish. And she ate it-hurray !! I was hoping she would eat it without detecting the veges in it. And why I titled the blog two birds with one stone, I managed to give Sammy a pasta dish without loads of cheese, plus I got veges down her. I know I only put a small amount of veges in, but I didn't want her guessing they were in there. So it's a start.
Her mood is very low at the moment, and she is very sensitive. She said a few days ago she will start working on her weight soon. So of course I am hoping she will.
I had baked fish with pumpkin, cabbage, potato, carrot with a cheese sauce mix. It is probably lower calorie than I could make the sauce.

Now, Sammy and Dwayne are calling me to watch Shortland Street. So that's all for now.
I hope you are having a healthy week emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the very helpful comments emoticon
Samantha said she will start watching her weight soon. We went shopping tonight and she got her piggy foods. She said this is the last time. Although she is determined to get her fruit juice. So I will try to get her to have just one a day, because they are full of sugar. She loves water which is a bonus, and she likes grapes so that is a start. And she has shown some improvement today so hopefully she is on an upward direction(moodwise). She put some effort into her appearance when we went shopping which was great. Because she has been ignoring that lately. She loves wearing makeup and she prettied herself up. Whereas last week she went very untidy, so it's looking good. emoticon

Being 16 can be hard work, I certainly wouldn't want to be that age again. Hopefully things will pick up for your daughter. Congrats on getting the veggies in there and a meal without cheese. Who knows, better eating may well improve her mood.

Well at least you got the hidden veggies into her, and she did not die, that is a start. I wish her could luck if she finds her motivation to get her weight under control. You just being supportive is all you can really do.

I puree veggies in the blender, then add them to sauces & meat patties. If there are no chunks, so son doesn't realize they are there and eats them just fine.

Having a 16 year old daughter can really be a challenge. I think you are handling it well. Good luck with her - and remember, she will thank you when she's older.
