Office Snacks

Monday, July 08, 2013

Because I have celiac disease, I cannot usually eat any of the snacks people bring into the office. For that, I am grateful. I remember the days when I used to grab a bagel or donut just because they were there. I don't miss that.

I had breakfast this morning (yogurt with flax cereal) but when I got into the office I was still hungry, so I made a packet of oatmeal. I don't usually eat two breakfasts. While I had berries with me, I still chose to make the oatmeal. Bad decision #1.

While I was eating the oatmeal, my favorite co-worker emailed me to say that she made gluten-free cupcakes this weekend, and brought in the leftovers. She wanted to give me one before she put them out to the wolves (my words, not hers). I finished the oatmeal, washed my bowl, and then graciously accepted a cupcake. My plan was to eat it after lunch.

You know what they say about best laid plans... The cupcake was gone by 10am. Bad decision #2.

The cupcake was only OK (Betty Crocker's GF mixes aren't great) but the icing was divine. So this wolf went into the kitchen took a second cupcake! Bad decision #3. I really did save it for after lunch, but that still means I ate 2 cupcakes by 1pm today. As I type this, my belly is FULL.

I don't know know why I did it. From here, I can only look forward, right?

I understand how hard that would be to turn down the cupcake in the first place. Especially since you probably don't have GF treats at work. Then, when somebody goes out of their way to make something special that you can have, well, that's even more pressure.

I have to say that office snacks are always my downfall. I don't have to avoid gluten or anything else, so there are no restrictions except my own. It's the first bite that reels me in. I always think one bite, one treat, one taste won't hurt, but it always sends me in a tailspin! I hope to learn from my mistakes soon. I know it's one of the main reason I dont lose.

I hope today goes better! Good luck!
