Yesterday's dilemma...

Monday, July 08, 2013

So yesterday started like a normal day. Menu done, ST done, a few chores done. While taking a shower I noticed a light flicker and thought the bulb was going.....than I noticed all three lights were flickering...oh oh ...could be a power outage. Jumped out to turn off the lights and quickly finished my shower. While drying off I heard the TV so I figured the power was back on. Boy was I wrong. We, along with most of our neighbors had a partial power outage....some lights on some not. I checked the fridge and it was out. Now we all know DO NOT OPEN fridge/freezer when power out. Never know how long it will be out and don't want food to spoil. Did I mention it was 85 and humid and the A/C went out too!
Called the electric company and the trouble shooter came out within an hour.....transformer needed to be replaced. He had to disconnect all the power and call in a crew to replace it. It was Sunday so that meant literally calling in a crew from their homes. After 5 hours of no power it was successfully back on :)
Luckily I keep a bowl of fruit on the counter so lunch/dinner was various fruits along with peanut butter, tuna and lots of water.
So even though our power was out we were able to eat healthy, stay on track and not succumb to a run for fast food.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful Monday and let's continue making healthy choices today. ((HUGS))

Your electric company was pretty efficient if they were able to get it all up and running in just 5 hours - not withstanding those 5 hours are 4 hours and 55 minutes too long to be without air conditioning in this heat! emoticon

We have frequent power cuts in Albania, fewer now, thank God! Maybe one every 2 weeks or so, but normally not longer than 2 or 3 hours. Used to be scheduled 2 or 3 times a day, plus unscheduled ones for defects!
But for you they are not a regular fact of life, so well done coping and not letting it throw you!

    Hi Barb,

So glad that you got your power back after a few hours - especially since it happened on a Sunday! Great for you that you were able to ride out the outage in a healthy way without any food spoilage. I bet it was hard to be without the air conditioner, but sounds like you did excellent!

Glad you got your power back. With all this heat, I'm surprised we've only had some flickers and no real loss. Since I have a well, I always try to stay prepared with a number of things. You did a great job and hope today is better.

    hugs...Mary Anne

Uggh! Power outages are the pits! I have had my share in New York accompanied by throwing out a lot of spoiled food. Sounds like you were lucky and didn't lose anything. That's great! Love your dinner idea...Thank God for fruit, tuna and peanut butter...good thinking, Barb. I am with you on continuing to make healthy choices...moving forward, not looking back, because I want to be healthier and happier. Thanks for always being there for me, my friend. You are one special lady. ((HUGS))

I hate power outages. My husband freaks out about them much more than me so I told him we should really get a back up generator, a small one, to run the fridge at least so he won't worry as much!
Glad you had your fruit and a few other things to tide you over. I think the worst part would be no air conditioning in this humidity. After being outside running and walking, there is nothing like coming into the house with central air!
Hope your day is back to normal today and at least you have a new transformer that shouldn't have issues for the rest of the summer!

My air conditioner is 27 years old and is still running like a champ. My worse fear is it will go out on a weekend on a 90 degree day! And why is it we still like to open the refrigerator when we know we're not supposed to? Curiosity killed the cat!

You did a great job of going to Plan B. It's always a good idea to have a backup plan. Thanks for reminding us to have a backup plan!

    Have a great week!

Thankfully the repair crew came so quickly and you didn't lose anything. And it wasn't something that you could control. I don't like it when I find out the repairs are for me to pay. Hope you have a better and cooler day without any drama.

emoticon Barb. I would have freaked out. I always say it is a good thing I am lazy and don't like going out in the heat. Yesterday I wanted a sundae so bad but I didn't want to go out in the heat. The only thing that saved me.

Being in Florida, it happens by us anytime we have a bad storm or hurricane winds. Good job on staying on track through it all. :)
