Welcome Home Granite Mountain Hotshots

Monday, July 08, 2013

Today has been a sad day. I live in the area of Prescott Arizona and today we had the return of the Hotshots that lost their lives in the Yarnell Hill Fire. I was unable to watch the procession in person, I had to work, but I did watch many video's on Facebook of the procession that allowed me to feel part of the welcome home that Prescott showed to the Yarnell 19.

I want to take a moment to say welcome home to the Yarnell 19 and that my prayers and thoughts are with their families and friends.

I have to say that I live in a wonderful community that has rallied together to show complete support to the families of the Yarnell 19. I also love that several places outside of Arizona have rallied together to help the families in need with donations and fundraisers, there help is greatly appreciated. The show of support by many, if not all, of the fire stations have been noticed and appreciated too.

Yes today has been a sad day, it is also a good day in that they have been returned to home base.

Welcome home Granite Mountain Hotshots, you will always be remembered.

I felt so saddened when I read what happened. It was great that so many people came together, and lined the streets to pay their respects. In spirit, they were there as well. emoticon

So very sad. The flags have been at half mast since they died... not sure if that is nationwide or just in MA. I think of them every morning when I go out and see the flagpole outside my building.

They were given the utmost respect from the people lining the streets to watch their departure from Phoenix. I didn't get to see that either, but the news coverage was very moving.

A very sad day indeed. I and my dh, a retired City of Chicago firefighter, have been deeply affected by the loss of so many young lives. We watched the procession today with tears in our eyes and prayers in our hearts for the families and all those close to those who gave their lives. emoticon
