Days 6&7 are known for being the days when you just draaaaaag. My body was so used to using sugar to fuel itself, and by now there's not much extra sugar left. They call this the "carb flu" because you get headaches and just wanna lay in bed all day. I'm tired. But not unbearably so.
Day 6 Saturday: Woke up early, made a big awesome breakfast. I took the leftover mashed plantains and added the shredded pork leftovers along with some onion, formed them into patties, and fried them up in coconut oil. Big dollop of bacon guacamole on top and a fried egg. Nom... Dragged bf to farmer's market and we had a good time. Picked up lots of yummy things, including white and purple bell peppers!
Went to barre & pole class right after. By the second class, I was noticeably lagging. I could barely climb up the pole and touch the ceiling, and my advanced planks were attempted half-heartedly.
Got home and made a salad with turkey, prosciutto, avocado, ranch-mayo, and heaps of veggies. Bf and I snipped at each other all day, just the Whole30 timeline said we would!
Dinner was a fabulous grass-finished sirloin with some grilled zucchini and carrots. I fell asleep on the couch early...
Day 7 Sunday: ... and woke up 13 hours later at 11am! I can't remember the last time I slept so late. Made a brunch of sausage patties, sweet potato hash, and scrambled eggs. Laid out for about an hour, then did some light cleaning and grocery shopping. Geez, what a boring day. I felt like a total yuppie at the grocery store, though.
"Sweetheart, what flavor kombucha would you like to try? Mango or Triple Green?"
"Oh, we better head to deli. You know they take FOREVER slicing our prosciutto."
"Should we get free range whole chicken, or chicken thighs?"
We're devoting a LOT more of our budget to food, so it only appears that we're ballers while food shopping.
Late snack was a organic turkey dog (Applegate brand) and chia drink made with passion fruit water. Yuppie snacks.
I'm quite proud of what I made for dinner. Get ready, 'cause I'm about to toot my own cooking horn.
Whole30 Chicken Fajitas:
Plantain tortillas.. got this idea from my bud REVIVED. They were awesome and so easy to make! The texture was so similar to a corn tortilla, it was crazy.
Grilled fajita spiced chicken thighs
Fajita veg - onion, tomato, bell pepper
Fresh tomatillo salsa.. first time using tomatillos, turned out awesome!
Bacon guacamole (again). I don't think I'll ever make guac without bacon.. it's just magical.
Our plates were so full of flavor we didn't even think about missing cheese or sour cream.
I checked out PRACTICAL PALEO from the library yesterday. Today I read her portion size guide and realized that I was eating waaaay more than what she recommends. For instance, whole30 meal template says 1-2 palm sized portions of protein. So I would say that's about 6-12 ounces of meat, or 3-6 eggs. Practical Paleo says a woman should have 3-8 ounces of meat, or 2-4 eggs. Hmmm.. Then the fat portions worried me. Whole30 says 1-2 thumb sized portions of oil, or 1/2-1 avocado. Practical Paleo says 1-2 tablespoons of oil, or 1/4 avocado. I began to get nervous.. am I eating way too much??
So... I broke a Whole30 rule. I got on the scale. Day 1 I was 126.8, today Day 7 128.6.
I had a mini freakout. I have gained 10 lbs since I moved here in March.
But then... breathed.. and told myself that I just crammed that huge veggie filled dinner down my gullet. And my body fat on Day 1 was 25%, today was 21%.
And I'm still buttoning all my pants just fine.. tummy still flat and purdy lookin.
THIS is why they tell you not to get on the stupid scale during this. My body is re-compositoning. If my pants get tight, then I can take some measures.
When we were walking the dogs tonight, my bf said I looked like a crossfit girl. So I guess I am putting on quite a bit of muscle. I'm certainly eating like a crossfit girl.
My butt is getting bigger too. I may have figured out how to make it clap this morning. And that was highlight of my day.
