I'm having trouble plotting out places to stay on our week long self-supported bike trip in Wisconsin next week. We had wanted to bike from a friend's house in Whitewater to a bike shop in Stevens Point. Each way is about 150 miles and I was planning on doing about 50 miles each day with a layover day in Stevens Point to get some work done on our bike.
I want the trip to be successful for us since this will be our first time at being fully self-supported. I think instead of trying to do this trip, I might buy a section of the Adventure Cycling maps that crosses Wisconsin and just do that route. The advantage of using the Adventure Cycling maps is that the maps not only pick out good roads for bicycling, they also list campgrounds and other places for bicyclists to stay. I think it would be a safer approach for our first self supported tour. We could ride the same number of days...it would just be on different roads.
I think it's important to be successful rather than trying to do too much for our first little trip.
