Rt. 66; South of Pontiac, IL

Covered almost 21 miles this week on Rt. 66 and find the walk to be more interesting as I go along. So far I've traveled a little over 100 miles and am in some real farm country now. Lots of corn fields. It's pretty neat to look at pictures on Google Earth and read the history as you travel through the towns. I will post tidbits of history that seem note worthy. Some items of note in Pontiac, IL: An old bridge was preserved by the Illinois Route 66 Association. The bridge features an old painted sign designating it as part of IL-4 as well. Site: The old police headquarters, built in 1941, was located just south of Pontiac. The remarkable thing about the building is it's shape: a pistol. How appropriate is that!
