My first Body Pump class

Today was my first Body Pump class at the Y. I really didn't know what I was getting into as I just joined a class that was starting when I happened to be there. Oh my! This is the hardest exercise I have ever done, which really isn't saying much. This class is primarily a strength training group class but is also a cardio workout as it gets your heart rate up. I had to do squats and lunges while holding barbells? across my shoulders, push ups, arm curls, and ab exercises for an hour. Not easy when you weigh nearly 300 lbs and are very out of shape. I did it though! I did not walk out even though I wanted to! I plan to keep going twice a week as I have read that it is a great class for shedding fat.

I have also tried aqua zumba, deep water exercises, les mills sh'bam, and aqua tai chi. I really enjoy all of the aqua classes. The sh'bam class is a little too hard on my knees I think and not really my thing since I have no rhythm and can't dance. I mostly just feel silly, and I like the other classes better. I have yo yo dieted and exercised for 20 years, and I have never stuck to any exercise because I hated it. I did tread mills, bikes, elipticals, stationary weights, etc. I am finding that I actually enjoy group classes, especially the aqua aerobics classes and for the first time I feel like I have found an exercise I can stick to for the rest of my life.

I can't say enough how much I appreciate the friendliness of the Y staff and all of the members. The members have gone out of their way to welcome and encourage me. They are so friendly and supportive! This means the world to me. I feel so embarrassed about my weight and my lack of any coordination or knowledge of exercise. I am so thankful for all of these wonderful people. I feel very positive about sticking to an exercise routine now! emoticon

Thank you Mommapam1 and Norwoodgirl for your support! Norwoodgirl, I highly recommend aqua aerobics of any kind. They give you a great full body workout without impact on the joints, and they get your heart rate up. The water provides resistance. I love them because I don't get really hot and sweaty since I am in the water. I look forward to going to them everyday!

Congratulations! It is really hard to find exercise you can stick with. I found mine with kettlebells.
You have certainly tried lots of different kinds of exercise! I haven't heard of some of them. I'll have to check them out!
