Well, this was a most horrendous week. My son and I were supposed to be at my friend's house at 9 am to start loading their 26' moving truck. The truck showed up at 11 am. 2 wasted hours right out of the gate. I was the load master, I decided where everything was to be put in the truck. First to go in are the heavy items, giant refrigerator, washer and dryer. They didn't get an appliance dolly (heavy duty hand truck with a strap for securing loads). So, we went searching for an appliance dolly. We finally found one and were able to start loading at a little after 1 pm. We were supposed to hit the road on Tuesday, that was not going to happen.
Spent the rest of the day getting boxes and other crap out of the garage and into the truck, Finally stopped at 9 pm. Met back at the house at 10 am on Tuesday, with the hopes of finishing the load and leaving Wednesday morning. Continued to load the truck, waiting on my friend's mom to decide on whether certain things should go or be thrown into the garbage bin they had rented. Worked til 9 pm again, now the truck is 75% full.
Wednesday morning started at 10 am and continued to pack the truck. Same as Tuesday, waiting on decisions from the homeowner (she was constantly either confused, asking the same questions multiple times or balling her eyes out about having to move). Again, knocked off at around 9 pm with the truck 95% full and plans to leave Thursday morning. I also filled the bed of my pickup with stuff that wouldn't fit in the big truck, 3 extra large boxes, a mini fridge, a large blue plastic tub full of random tools, a large mirror and a large futon mattress and a standard hand truck.
Thursday morning met up at 9 am. Spent until 10:30 am putting the last few items in the truck and finally hit the road at 11 am. After a couple of stops for gas and food we arrived at our destination at approximately 7:30 pm. Here's where it gets annoying! We were told by my friend's aunt who lives up there that allwe had to do was load the truck and get it up there. Then we could relax because the rest would be taken care of for us. LOL When we got to the house, the only people there were my friend's mom and his son who rode up with her, they left about 1/2 hour before we did. So I set about to unloading the truck with my friend, his son, my son and myself. After a little while my friend's aunt showed up with a couple of take and bake pizzas. After we had been unloading the truck for close to an hour my friend's brother showed up. He unloaded 3 boxes that contained a fake Christmas tree, about 6 throw pillows and helped with the blue tub that contained the random tools. That was it. His excuse for being of no real help was that he worked a 12 hour day and had to be at work again at 6 the next morning. But he stood around for three hours talking with his aunt and mother, the neighbor lady and watched some fireworks that some neighbors were setting off in the street. Lazy @ss.
We unloaded all but about a dozen boxes and the three large appliances from the moving truck, then unloaded everything from my truck and called it a night, around 11:30 pm. I went to bed finally about 1 am Friday morning, slept on a couch and got up at 7 am. Milled around for a bit waiting for others to get up. Finally was able to get people moving and then had to run out and get breakfast for everyone. We then got started on the truck at about 10 am to finish clearing it out. But first had to move a bunch of stuff in the garage because things were in the way of where the washer and dryer needed to go and her precious 600 lb fridge wasn't going to fit in her new kitchen so it had to go in the garage. That meant moving more stuff around to get to a wall so we could get the fridge in place and plugged in. By 1 pm we were done, finally.
On thursday night while unloading the truck I decided that I did not want to stick around because it was clear that I would be spending all of my time unpacking boxes and arranging the house! I was not willing to do that! So my son and I said our goodbyes and we finally got out of there at 2:30 Friday afternoon. We could have made good time coming home but I took a detour down a road called Avenue of the Giants. It's a scenic road that follows the same path as highway 101 but you drive through the giant redwoods and it's impressive and pretty. My son really wanted to make that drive so I went ahead and did it. It cost me about an hours worth of time. On that route we stopped at a little place that had a drive through tree, but it wasn't the one I'd seen before on tv, it was smaller and my truck would have only had about 1 inch of clearance, according to the guy that runs the place. So we parked and walked around and checked out some of the trees and walked through the drive through tree.
Finally arrived home at 11 pm Friday night. Took a shower and ended up in bed just a little after midnight. Got up again at 6:30 so I could get my son up and get him showered so we could head over and help out at the yard sale my folks were having to get rid of some of my grandparents stuff. Ended up there from just before 8 am to 1:30 pm. It was an extremely long week.
My back is thrashed, having gone out twice on Tuesday and all of the driving and box lifting and couch, mattress and appliance toting and moving. I was hoping to sleep about 10 hours last night, but ended up with just a little over 8 hours due to my back waking me up.
I drove 803.4 miles in a total of 17 hours. Those 17 hours were inside a window of 36 hours total (11 am Thursday to 11pm Friday). I am beat!
My eating all week sucked bit time! Fast food was the norm while packing the truck and once we got there. So I gained this week big time despite working pretty darn hard!
Weight : 214.0
Gain : 4.6
Total : 103.2
So that's my sad tale for the week. I'm not even all that bummed about the big gain, I'm just glad that this week is completely behind me! Now to work on getting rid of this gain and get back below 210.
My son standing beside a cut down redwood tree, not a very big one though. We saw some on the side of the road that were twice as big.
