I have another week to go before my appointment with the allergist. Meanwhile I've been trying out some smoothie recipes that include greens. Stopped by Whole Foods and asked about a number of the packaged powders - the very attentive young man working there told me they mostly tasted like the bottom of a lawn mower. Ick.
I tried out a smoothie from Tana Amen's "Omni Diet" book. It's her "Brain Smart Start Smoothie" and of course, I left out half the ingredients as unnecessary or unhelpful. What I came up with was 1/4 cup each frozen cherries and blueberries, 6 ounces coconut water, a tablespoonful of something called coconut manna (made for smoothies?), a handful of spinach, the green powder, about a tablespoon of ground flax seeds, a dash of coconut milk (lite), about half a cup of crushed ice, and a dropper of vanilla crème liquid stevia. It looked like green sludge. It actually tasted good. I've made it twice and both times it's carried me from breakfast (at 5am) to lunch (at 11:30am).
So green sludge. Who knew?
