Vacations and Eating

Sunday, July 07, 2013

I have been off work since Wednesday and it's been hot emoticon in the Northeast. Most days have been over 90 and who wants to cook when it's that hot.
Add that with being off from work and it's been hard to stay focused and on track. emoticon

I haven't gone crazy but have been overindulging: went out for ice cream a couple of times and out to dinner a few times. I have cut myself some slack because I am on vacation, although it's a staycation so really no excuse not to stay on plan.
My weight is slightly up today but not crazy. I need to stay focused on my July goal of 150, which is very doable. emoticon

Today we are having my BIL's family over to celebrate my niece's birthday. There will be cake and ice cream plus hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, green salad, and fruit. My plan for staying in range is to have a light breakfast and lunch and moderate dinner. Drink lots of water and stay away from snacks today.

Found this article on vacation eating, which has some tips, mostly for away vacations but many apply to all types of vacations.

Vacations are so challenging! Sounds like you have a great plan! I make sure I eat a good breakfast then take it from there. If I snack it is usually fruit!

    Vacations are hard.

I tried "really" hard this past weekend being away at the lake & I think I did good until my mom's cookout on Saturday. Too many good treats - I over indulged! emoticon

I'll have to check out your link - thanks for sharing!

The minute something changes, whether it's the heat, vacation, family events, etc. is when I feel lost. I don't have a plan OR I don't want to have a plan! Still not eating that great after my vacation, but trying to make up for it by exercising more. Earlier in the day or later in the day because I live in the Northeast too! You can do it. I know you can! Hard to beat the ice cream, however! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Vacations can be really hard. I didn't even try to track while I was riding GOBA. I hope you have a nice time at the birthday party.

I'm wrapping up my staycation as well. I did ok, until it got to hot to cook and then I grazed all day. It really added up! Looking forward to next week.

I was traveling last week and basically living on our truck. Eating healthy when I the road is tough. I'm focusing on getting back on track too. We can do this!

It IS a challenge all in its own to eat well while on vacation! I am working on drinking my daily water before I go for treats on these hot days. It helps, but I agree, hot weather and vacation do make me want to eat ice cream AND go out to eat! emoticon

I agree it is easy to overeat on vacations. I tried to make sure and eat really well at breakfast always. That helps set up the day. Have a relaxing time. Good article.
