Had a lovely breakfast with our women's group at church today. I am in charge of the next program in September (we are invited to join the Men's breakfast in August and they do a really impressive spread - we brown bag it at our breakfasts because the men use the kitchen. I am really pleased that I get to do the program for MY BIRTHDAY month - in fact most of us chose our birthday months - except Helen who wanted to do hers in November because she IS a WWII veteran and wants to do a Veterans' Day program. At 90, the others who had wanted November let her have it. Somehow it seemed natural to start a discussion about the woman who has been doing the programs for years and who is currently in a nursing home. Then we just started telling stories and Helen casually mentioned that she once went to the Easter Egg roll at the White House and that her mother had cooked for Eleanor Roosevelt. The room got silent as Helen rambled about some PRETTY INTERESTING stories nobody had heard before. She has led an interesting life. Then someone else mentioned that they had gone to Plains Georgia and met Jimmy Carter and Ms Lillian and also had been invited to the White House by Ronald Reagan. Then someone started talking about her nephew - some of you may have heard of him as the winner of the most Olympic Gold Medals in history (22) - Michael Phelps. It was really fun to hear the stories from these women. They are a truly amazing resource.
Went to the pool and had a good workout. Unfortunately, the heat and humidity is so bad today, the sweat is dripping off of me and getting in my eyes.
Ed fixed a luscious salad for dinner tonight - too hot to cook - started with the bagged salad greens, added blueberries and raspberries and sliced hard boiled eggs and chopped nuts. He put mushrooms on his and I had mine without them. We are planning to have the leftovers for dinner tomorrow if the heat keeps up. I was really happy with this for dinner as it is not only too hot to cook but too hot to eat much either. All I seem to want today is water, more water, and fruits. My blood sugar is still doing well and I am happy about that.
Tomorrow will be going to church and then to the pool if I get back into town early enough. Pool closes at 4 tomorrow and sometimes we get back to town by 1 and other times it is nearly 3 - it depends on whether we need to stop at the stores or have a meeting after church.
Anyhow, everyone have a blessed and peaceful Sunday and remember to say thank you for allowing you to have the gift of such a precious day.
