Trip to the Zoo

Saturday, July 06, 2013

I'm starting to manifest physically signs of stress. My eye is twitching, so is my leg. No chest pains yet. Exercising is not really helping.

Hubby said I needed a break so he took me to Brookfield Zoo today. I admit that I fought with him a bit about it. We don't have the money right now. However, he wasn't taking no for an answer.

I have to admit I had a great time. I got to spend some time watching the African Painted dogs, I adore them. Unfortunately, the wombats were all hiding. I love wombats. The Grizzlys were swimming - funny to see them so "graceful". We did about 9,000 steps in 3 hours. I did relax a bit. So that was the best part of all.

I plan on doing about 45 minutes on the elliptical tonight while we watch Ted. We'll see how it goes.

I sympathize with you regarding the stress. You should here the conversations in my head at 4:12 in the morning.

Sensible Me: "You can't do anything about Problem X now. In fact, there isn't much you can do in broad daylight either. It's out of your control."

Nutcase Me: "Yeah. Whatever. I'll focus on my breathing. That'll distract me from the worries about Problem X. Problem X is going to derail my career. It's going to ruin countless lives. This problem in monumental. What is wrong with me trying to count my breaths. I've got to worry about Prolbem X."

Sensible Me: "You really need to sleep. Just close your eyes for a few minutes. Count backwards by 3s. 100... 97... 94..."

Nutcase Me: "94... how am I going to make up that $94,000 shortfall? What if the work move is overbudget..."

And so it goes. All real and serious problems, but why I think I can solve them at 4:00 in the morning is beyond me. I am working really hard at changing that. And exercise does help in the long run. Don't give up on the exercise even though you think it doesn't help. It does.

So glad you went. Being around animals is such a stress reliever, no matter what animal it is. Amazing to watch how graceful large animals are.
Glad you had a good time. emoticon

I hope you feel better soon. I think it was so nice of you man to take you to the zoo--a relaxed walk must have helped you feel better.
I always plan to do my dreadmill while watching the tv with hubs but to this day I have not.

I understand the stress creating havoc within our lives. Yes, we do need to take time out, like a trip to the zoo. Sometimes we have to spend the money to get "therapy".

I was just thinking today, I have not had a drink in a couple of months. I think I am due. It always helps me to relax, lol. No, I really cannot afford it, but I cannot afford my rxs either, lol! We manage.

Take care of your whole self!!! emoticon emoticon

I love zoos and I hate that darn eye twitch! Hopefully the zoo helped get rid of it, at least temporarily. Funny story...I was doing all this research on eye twitches to see if there was something medically wrong with me! I honestly didn't even realize that I was under so much stress that it was causing that physical sign! When all I could find as common causes were stress and lack of sleep, I realized I couldn't do much about it until I got out of the job I was in, which was causing MAJOR stress! Lo and behold, started a new job and no more eye twitch!

take some magnesium and/or calcium(magnesium better) and be sure to be properly hydrated. it helps with muscle cramps and twitching and with not bursting into tears spontaneously. emoticon

Brookfield Zoo is my favorite zoo of all! We live in WI, but when the kids were little and we lived in IL, we'd go often during the summer.

Sublingual b-complex really helps with stress. The pill forms don't work, my doc told me. He didn't even think the liquid kind would, until he saw my bloodwork having changed so well after using it.
Exercise helps too. I'm glad your husband took you for that change of pace.
