Why I'm having a break from tracking.

Saturday, July 06, 2013

In my last post I mentioned that I get bored of tracking after a little while, inevitably give up and put weight back on. So having a break from tracking when I've only been at it for 4 weeks seems insane.

However, I have learnt a lot in those 4 weeks. I have learnt that 1500 cals a day is not enough to sustain me, regardless of activity levels (low). I have much more energy at 1700 cals, and although the weight loss did stall momentarily when I increased my calories, it got on its way again sharpish.

I have found myself getting totally obsessed over numbers and freaking out about whether I can have this or that food, making it a diet that it was never meant to be. Invariably I save my calories at the start of the week and end up overeating (and over drinking) later in the week when I have an abundance.

So, from Monday and I don't know how long for, I will be sticking to the intermittent fasting/5:2, as it is working well for me, but relaxing about numbers on the other 5 days. I will also put a cap on the number of alcoholic drinks I have, as hangovers aren't cool, kids!

Another experiment!

Awesome!! How's it going? I love 5:2 by the way.

I see a number of people doing the 5:2 now and seeming to get on with it. Let us know how it goes for you.

I don't track because I eat the same stuff over and over but I do keep a food diary. It is easier for me to look back and see what I was doing several weeks ago, especially if I have been away or had visitors.

Spark people have set my calories at 1800+ so I can eat well but there are always "hungry days" and better days along the way

I agree obsessing/stressing about numbers can be very annoying after a while. Just make a note of the 'extras' - any treats maybe. On my eating plan (slimming world) I try to note down the treats (syns) and keep them within the number allowed rather than every apple!

I can really relate to the obsessing over numbers. I have to tell myself to relax all the time. Good luck to you!
