Saturday mishmash

Saturday, July 06, 2013

Well, at least it's cooled off here! I don't feel quite so much like overcooked greens.

Tiny annoyance -- the plastic housing around the top of my box grater is breaking up. When it finally bites the dust I'm going to lay out a little extra for a quality model with a hard rubber housing. I'm a cheese fanatic, so a grater gets a workout in my kitchen. Besides, my next CSA box is going to have summer squash and I'm thinking grated squash and onion pancakes next weekend.

I finished making the strips for my afghan and now I'm doing the edgings. That will take some time but hopefully I'll have it finished before Christmas! No, I'm not giving it to anyone. It's staying with me.

Employee Assistance at work is helping me find some referrals for inexpensive household services. They say they'll have some for me Tuesday or Wednesday. I could sure use it. Some people here shamed me for looking for help instead of doing it myself, but I really do need help.

I think I'll take a nap now...

That's great that your HR offers that service. More than likely, it would mean that they've done the "legwork" into researching whether or not these services are good or not.

As far as your box grater, I bought an OXO Box Grater, and I LOVE it! It's super sharp, so it takes minimal effort to sherd whatever - including Parmesan and other hard cheeses, and chocolate. You can order them on Amazon in case you can't find one in a store near you.

If you need help, there's nothing wrong with asking for it. Hope that you can find someone that will work well for you.

There is no shame in asking for help when it is needed. Tell those co-workers to mind their own business!

The squash and onion pancakes sound delicious. Please let us know how they turn out, once you make them.

My CSA veggies have been languishing. I just haven't much felt like cooking these last few days. Must get myself back together before the next CSA!

LadyIrish, I would love the recipe for the grated squash and onion pancakes. I have both coming out my ears! LOL

The people that try to make you feel ashamed, they forget about all the many times in our younger years that we helped others. We blessed others and now we get blessed by others!

I must have "glossed over" the part of your blog where the people who "SHAMED YOU" OFFERED THEIR SERVICES TO HELP YOU!
People need to STOP POINTING FINGERS & assigning blame! I wonder HOW MANY could have walked in YOUR SHOES & handled things alone.

Getting help is nothing to be ashamed of. Your life will be so much easier with someone to help you.
    Good luck!

Ignore those persons who have shamed you. It is a sign of strength to know and admit one needs help. Hope they come through for you.

The pancakes sound fabulous! You should post a picture and recipe when you make them. Please! :-)

Oh my gosh! I would love help around the house. I would take it if you can get it my friend! For sure. Here it is far too expensive for me but in the Caribbean I had help once a week. It makes such a difference. I hope you can do it.

Don't let anyone shame you - only you know what you are capable of. Others would sometimes prefer us to kill ourselves just to keep up with everyone. Nope - you go ahead and take care of yourself - cause no one else will.

Hope you share a picture of your afghan when you get finished. You are definitely one of those people I wish I could be more like. I can handle sewing - because usually you can see the close-to-the-end results pretty soon. Other stuff, not so much patience. I got one row completed on an afghan once and gave up - the last one I ever "did."

Not only do you NEED help, you DESERVE it too. Our society is all in favor of YOU doing everything yourself, but not really there to help out when it becomes overwhelming. I hope you find someone wonderful.

I think that is DEPLORABLE that ANYONE would shame you for getting help. That is just deplorable and despicable. That's all I can say about that . . . gotta get off my soapbox except to say to you GOOD FOR YOU for seeking the help. THAT takes courage.

    HUGS and smiles.

I ACTUALLY THOUGHT OF YOU THIS PAST WEEK WHEN I MET TWO OF YOUR FAVORITE PEOPLE - ALTON BROWN AND BOBBY FLAY. THEY WERE IN OMAHA FOR THE FOOD DRIVE TO STOP HUNGER IN AMERICA - ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS.
ALTON BROWN ISN'T NEARLY AS CRABBY AS HE ALWAYS SEEMS ON TV AND IS SUPER INTELLIGENT. BOBBY WAS A LITTLE FULL OF HIMSELF AND THAT SURPRISED ME. I DID GET A PICTURE OF THEM BOTH ON MY PHONE. IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO DOWN LOAD IT I WILL SEND IT TO YOU OR AT LEAST POST IT.
