Monthly Family Dinners

Saturday, July 06, 2013

About 4 years ago, my wonderful daughters decided that just having family gatherings on holidays wasn't enough so we began having a family dinner every month. We take turns hosting the dinner so everyone gets a chance. The host family/person decides the menu and furnishes the meat then tells everyone else what to bring.

WE all put into a kitty to buy paper products so no one has a lot of dishes to do.

This month it is my turn so I'm having a cook out. I have hamburgs, chicken, and turkey burgers. The girls are bringing the buns, chips, potato salad, and a watermelon.

Sometime we do a craft but mostly we just sit and enjoy each others company. there are from 10 to 16 of us that gather plus the 2 babies. Now that my grandkids are older and some have jobs it is harder to schedule around everyone's work schedule. So we will just set a date and those that can come will be there and those that have to work will be missed..

Either way we will have fun...

I forgot to mention that we bring a gift or gifts for the host/hostess or host family. The gifts are generally something we already have around our house. We all have things/items that we have enjoyed but may have change our decor or they just don't fit us anymore and are too good to throw away. We pass them around. Amazing how different something looks in a different house. Sometimes we just bring freshly picked flowers from our yard. This is just to recognize the effort and work the host family has done. Yesterday, I got a rose bush, a hibiscus bush, and a purple leafed tree. The grand kids even planted them for me.

We look forward to our dinners every month.

that is great, and so important for the younger kids, making memories, we always had Sunday Dinner at my house growing up, lots of work for my Mother, and I never realized it for many years, but great memories

What fun! I'm 12,000 miles away from my family and I miss big happy gatherings just because. Definitely a great tradition.
