Cooky Recipe Number 27: Date-Oatmeal Cookies and Other Stuff

Saturday, July 06, 2013

I've been doing a bit of baking recently.
Date-Oatmeal Cookies

I couldn't find a link to the recipe but I did find a blog of somebody else who is baking their way through the Cooky Book.
Snickerdoodle Bars...these were pretty good. Next time I will add some cream of tartar to give them the real snickerdoodle flavor. These needed significantly more than the 1/2 tsp cinnamon (I added a heaped tsp and some cinnamon chips).

I got a test recipe from Cook's Illustrated for Gluten Free Chewy Sugar Cookies. I baked them to rave reviews a couple of weeks ago so when I was invited to a potluck yesterday (the hostess is GF), I knew what to bake. I also experimented with the recipe and made a batch of chocolate ones. Both were fab! There were originally 2 dozen of's what's left:

My husband and I went to Lee's Sandwiches for dinner a couple of weeks ago and they had this sign up:

In running news, I did a virtual Half Marathon spread out over a few days for the Dr. Who 50th Anniversary. Here is the cool bling:

I did the lupus 5K on 6/9: 35:34 an PR :-)
I ran the San Jose Shark's Fitness Faceoff 10K on 6/30. I have been having some ball of foot pain on my left foot so I took it slowish. 1:12:07....a PR (my "10K from last year was only about 9K) :-) I've been biking this week and hope to get back to running very soon.
Here's the fun bling:

Oh so much goodness in one blog! I think I gain weight just coming to your blogs, lol. Did you try the juice? Love the new bling! What was that website called again? I'm having problems with my laptop lately and I can't find the link. :(

Love the "no sugar added". Super cool virtual race bling. My friends did a virtual Bacon Challenge 5k and received a very cool medal they weren't expecting when they paid their $20 participant fee. I was thinking about you last night. I baked peanut butter cookies and oatmeal chocolate chip. Not as exotic as dates, but it's what my family likes.

You have been a busy girl! The cookies all look great and your bling is beautiful!
The ball of foot pain is what pushed me to the edge this year. I haven't been running much at all because of that, lots of wogging. I did get custom orthotics, but I have to say they haven't helped much with the ball of my foot. Cycling shoes have helped though. My feet aren't as exasperated when I finish a ride/run brick.
Hope you are able to find out the cause of your pain. When you do, let me know!

YUM!!! and cool bling! Love it all!!! We are so much alike, I almost always increase or even add cinnamon to much of my baking (ie: today's cream cheese/rhubarb bars).
