Over the years I have read numerous articles about the effects of “runner’s high” and the results of boosted endorphins while jogging. I haven’t experienced feelings of euphoria when I run, but I do often experience what seems to be a ‘purging’ of the mind. Often running can be highly emotional for me, like an immense release of pent-up toxic energy. I haven’t heard or read it described by others in this way, but I do like the ‘detox’ of thoughts that comes from my own running. The more I do it, the more I look forward to doing it again, which is a surprising, unanticipated response for me. I think I am beginning to understand why so many people continue to run and set new goals for themselves.
