Week 7, Our Final Week in the Land Of Oz.

Friday, July 05, 2013

We are up bright and early to drive to Mt Kosciuszko. Joan and I are singing our way down the road, all 209 miles of journey. What fun! But underlying feeling of (it is almost over. I don't think either one of us thought it would effect us so much. As the thought enters my mind, I tear up and then Joanie catches me and there we are bawling as we travel down the Alpine Way to the town of Bright. It is so beautiful along here and I can only imagine what it would be like if it was fall and the colors were changing.

We spent two days at Mt. Kosciuszko. It is the highest Mountain in Australia. We set up our campsite and then after getting some nourishment we take a drive around Lake Eucumbene. It is a man made lake. A storm was brewing.

and this was the sunset.

Day 2
Up very early to hike to the top of the Mountain with wildflowers growing everywhere.
What a teriffic day and the climb going down was harder than the climb up.

So sad to leave all this behind but we need to get to Canberra today.

Day3 and 4
We arrive and enjoy just the night there.

and then on to Katoomba. and we even made a quick stop in Cowra, a sheep farming area.
Just had to get some cheese there. LOL---and then on through the Blue Mountains and finely to Katoomba where we will stay at the 3 Sisters Motel for 2 nights. This is the most awesome night I experienced in awhile. We got to see the 3 Sisters all lit up and hear the legend.

The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe.

These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry.

The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle.

As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.

We went on the skyway, the railway, and then on the walkway and cableway. Some of which caused me to hold my breat and hang on for dear life. All Joanie's fault because she double dared me!

Day 6 we head to Sydney. Awesome views of the sea again which by now you all know that I love. Ann packed our last day so full of everything she wanted us to se. A very fast paced tour to get it all in, the city, the opera house which is one of the most fantastic work of architecture I have ever seen.

then we were off to the Botanical Gardens next door and went into the wildlife park. Next was a train ride through the park and then onto the monorail. Then on to Darling Harbour.
We went shopping and then to the Aquarium where Jeannie got to swim with the sharks. Not me---I had enough of wild things to do me a lifetime. It was beautiful there. And then the zoo, (my feet are falling off, My head is spinning and we still have more to do. I think Ann is trying to kill us off but we won't give in--We just keep going like an energizer bunny. LOL

Ann got a call from her hubby and he surprised her by flying into Sydney. He has arranged for all of us to have a dinner sail on a Tall Ship. I am so totally excited. What a perfect way to end our trip. These Tall ships are awesome. I can't even find a word to describe how it felt to be on one.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal and live music and afterwards we all got to put some pants on and climb the mast. Silly me, I should tell you I had to change from my cocktail dress to pants..

Next morning we all have a nice brekke and then say our farewells until we meet again. I hear we might get together in January again for some more thrills.

Gail: What a great blog and a wonderful trip, I missed getting to finish it, and I miss you and Joanie, I hope I can go along on the next trek whenever that will be. I know Ann doesn't even want to think about it for a little while. She does such a great job and a lot of work getting that much traveling together. Thanks for sharing all your fun and pictures.
