Cookies Make Me Depressed

Yes, cookies make me depressed! Not only if I eat too many of them but specifically if they contain gluten. My middle son has always had an issue with gluten ever since he was little and could never eat it. I always cooked separately for him and we continued to eat regular foods. I noticed about two years ago I was starting to get arthritis symptoms in my fingers once in awhile. I always had a sensitive stomach but I am allergic to just about everything, so I thought it was just my allergies. I noticed I would get "old lady hands" after I ate pizza, cookies etc. I never thought it was the gluten.




I also noticed some days my mood would be so out of wack and it was not that time of the month and I would just be plain depressed, tired and irritable for no reason what so ever. I was doing research and reading for my son and realized I was gluten intolerant. I stopped eating gluten. I put the whole family on a gluten free diet. My stomach issues have cleared up, no longer have old lady hands and my mood and energy has improved. My husband says his knees no longer hurt him.

    I am gluten intolerant as well so I know how you feel. Have you tried baking gf cookies? There is a great recipe for gf chickpea chocolate chip cookies. emoticon

    Thank you for such an informative blog.

I have long suspected that gluten was a major factor in my eating disorder as I crave all carbs with a passion.

My issue is that I am a vegan and already have eliminated all meat, fish, fowl, dairy, sugar, eggs, so without gluten that would mean one of my major protein souces ( seitan ) would have to go as well, and I just can not live on protein shakes, and beans are not enough, and I go easy with soy. I hope to have it figured out eventually.

    That's sad you have to avoid one more thing, but at least you've figured it out. C can be for carrot instead.
