The day after . . .

Friday, July 05, 2013

Hope you had a safe and sane 4th of July!!!

We had a great turn out (70+ people) at our first neighborhood watch BBQ & potluck yesterday.

One of our neighbors bbq'd a whole lamb, a side of beef ribs and 2 fresh salmon.

There were tons of baked beans, a gazillion types of potato and pasta salads, and a whole table of desserts.

I don't care much for potlucks. Mostly, I don't trust the way other people prepare food . . . just the thought of somebody licking the spoon and sticking it back into the food they're preparing, just grosses me out!

But I had a bit of this and a bit of that (prepared by people I trust). I tried the lamb . . . (texture like a chicken thigh, too mushy for me) . . . but the salmon was awesome. And I had a piece of cheese cake. The cupcakes and unidentified fluffly things with gooey icing didn't even look good.

And go figure, I was half a pound down this morning.

I love the pics today! Especially the first one!

I had to emoticon at your take on potlucks...dh and I almost won't eat unless we do know and trust who cooked it. I didn't think there was anyone as bad as us...

Glad you had such a great turn out and enjoyed yourselves so much!

Good job on handling that potluck!

My dad never likes those kind of things for the same reason you don't. He usually won't eat anything.

Love your photos - they fit your words so perfectly!

Yeah, potlucks are mostly really fattening foods, so I feel frustrated by them.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of potlucks either nor of buffets. Glad you had a nice time though and that you were even a half pound down! emoticon

That sort of thing puts me off too, especially children who stick there fingers in and lick them and stick them into something else.

You handled the overabundance of food beautifully. Congrats. I'm like you, I don't trust that other cooks aren't double dipping. My son is a chef, and from stories he's told me of things he's seen in restaurant kitchens, I am leery of them too. I have to turn off my worry meter to be able to eat anyplace but home. About lamb, I love it, but it has to be prepared just right. My sister spent some years living in the middle east, so she's taught me how to do it right. In fact, just last night when I went grocery shopping I picked up some ground lamb (can't afford lamb chops these days). My daughter has requested I make lamb burgers stuffed with feta cheese.

Moving on: I love the pic of the fat cat with the svelte shadow. She looks just like a cat I had for 19 years (and still miss dreadfully). She was a huge Maine Coon named Little Sis, and at one point she got just as fat as the cat in the pic. I swear her mental picture of herself was the svelte one, though, because she just had that attitude.

Have a great weekend. --Lou

Sounds fun. I had lamb once. Didn't like it. I thought it was too greasy.

I don't do pot lucks either. I'm in the same boat you are. I've watched some of my friends cook - no thanks!

Ohh I love lean, tender tasty BBQ--- and here in the south we pile slaw on top of the BBQ sandwiches... YUM!
( ... I don't trust everyone's kitchen, however. Health inspectors might faint in some cases ) LOL
