Resurfacing ...

Friday, July 05, 2013

It's been a rough week. My beloved furbaby Cosmo was in the hospital for four days with a blocked urethra and I was a nervous mess. He's back home now and on the mend, but not back to normal yet. He's ... leaking, which means every time he sits down there's a drop of pee. My house is disgusting! I'm a total neat freak so this is really bothering me. I've been mopping the floor seriously every 6 hours since Tuesday, and I need to call the carpet cleaners to come scrub the carpets upstairs. Today I finally just locked him in the big bathroom upstairs with a litter box so at least it's contained. They said it should stop in 3-4 days, so I'm hoping tomorrow is magical because I swear I don't see any signs of it slowing down.

I've been doing OK food wise. I've still been eating my normal combination of hummus, tabbouleh, pita chips, tofu, avocados, beans, fruit, etc. while at home, but I've been eating out quite a bit. I haven't been doing a very good job of photographing my food.

Also, if you noticed a few weeks ago I said I'd try to make July my limited gluten month. However, in my pantry I have pasta, barley, bulgur, etc. so instead I'm going to eat what is in the pantry and then not replace it. I think it's a more realistic way to go for me. I'm not planning on going nuts in the gluten free aisle trying to find gluten free versions of all the stuff I've been eating. I'm trying to change the way I eat so that it's not so pasta and bread heavy in general. (I don't think it's *that* carb-heavy, but it's worth the experiment to see how I feel if I lower the gluten/carbs.)

I ran the Firecracker 5K yesterday in 40:25, so a 13:02/mile. I'm pretty happy with that. I'd like it to be under 40 for my next 5K next month. (My PR is about 38 minutes.) I've also been to HIIT and I've been doing some ST at the gym. Last week Spark yelled at me for doing too much exercise. I love it when that happens. :)

I was supposed to be in Chicago this weekend for the 4th, but with the sick kiddo I canceled the trip. Therefore I really have no plans for this weekend. I did the 5K and fireworks yesterday and we talked about going to the local Friday Night Live concert series tonight, and possibly checking out the new cinema & drafthouse at some point, but who knows what if anything will actually happen. And I'm OK with that. I am poor after the vet bills so a quiet weekend at home is kind of nice.

Working a half day today and then scrubbing the house some more and then possibly hitting the pool if the weather holds up.

Happy 4th of July, fellow Americans! And for today, happy Friday, everyone!

I'm glad Cosmo is home! We had a similar issue with our lab this week; she had a lump removed (no cancer, thank goodness), but she came back to us peeing everywhere and bleeding from the incision! emoticon It did get better though, so I hope Cosmo is back to normal soon!
