Early birthday celebration...
Thursday, July 04, 2013
My brother and I both have birthdays coming up in the next couple of weeks, so we took advantage of the fact that everyone had the day off to get together and celebrate. Family dinners are so much fun. The conversation is interesting and far ranging and the food is delicious. Tonight we had Mackerel, potatoes, soybeans, fresh asparagus, salad with fresh picked greens, and summer squash with onions. For dessert we had slices of cantaloupe with strawberries and raspberries, and ice cream or frozen yogurt (depending on each person's preference). We used to always have chocolate cake at birthday celebrations, but these days we have switched to fresh fruit and cream or ice cream.
It was pretty warm here today. My aunt said her thermometer said 91 degrees this afternoon. Now, I know for some of my friends that is nothing, but I live in Western New York state, which is not known for its warm weather!
Tomorrow looks like it might be a busy day. It is a run day. So that plus dog walks start my day. Then I have a friend coming over for a few hours, followed by a trip to Hamburg for capsize training in my kayak. I have never intentionally flipped my kayak before, and I am not even certain how to go about flipping it, but I guess I will figure it out tomorrow evening. It is good to know how to make a wet exit and do a re-entry... just in case.
