Day 95 - Happy 4th of July!
Thursday, July 04, 2013
It is also my parents' 49th wedding anniversary! You guys rock, Mom and Dad!
Well, I worked the first 6 hours on my first shift. I have an hour break and going back to work in another group home. Today was calm and quiet. One of the clients closed all the shades and made it dark. They watched The Andy Griffith Show marathon and then switched to Gunsmoke. Yawn... No one said more than 20 words in those 6 hours, no joke! two are non-verbal. One of them can say a few words and I was surprised to hear him say hi to me and use my name! We practiced my name last winter and he remembered!
This other group home is much more lively. They all talk and carry on full conversations. Some of the things they say are hilarious! One actually goes to college to work on his GED...but he will never be able to attain it. He reads at a second grade level and cannot form meaningful paragraphs or create a story.
I start work in 10 minutes...so it will be co-hosting a party, grrrrr! Passing meds, clean up the party mess, pass out night meds, get everyone in the vans and drive out to see fireworks. I probably won't see home until after 11 pm. Sigh....
And start all over again with another double shift.
Well, I hope everyone is having a great 4th!
