And now back to our regularly scheduled programming! Well, sort of.

Made it to the gym just now, for the first time in several days. The last couple weeks have been hectic, but mostly in a good way. After I posted last time, a good friend and her 3-yr old daughter stayed with me for a few days. It was fun hanging out with them, but very busy--we did all the touristy stuff (Aquarium, science museum, zoo, parks), and spent a ton of time just catching up.

After they left, things got crazy-busy at work: my volunteer program had a nice write-up in the paper, so we've been meeting and interviewing potential new volunteers like crazy, with something like 60 applications flooding in! Because my volunteers work directly with children, the screening and interview process is pretty time-intensive for each applicant. Meanwhile, our federal reporting, where we tell the government how we've spent their money the past year, is due. So, yeah, crazy...but mostly good stuff!

Then we had a nutty hot spell (96 degrees in Portland is nutballs. We die.), and all I did was sit on my couch, read, and melt. I make no apologies for my uselessness.

And so, today, at last, I made it to the gym. Whew! All I did was the elliptical, but I'm jazzed I went back after some life distractions, and did a few more minutes than the last time I was there. :)

And, not only am I not going anywhere where I might overindulge in BBQ treats, but I'm actually going to help a friend move later this afternoon, so there should be some good calorie-burning happening there--bonus!

Foodwise, I'm re-evaluating the vegan eating. It hasn't been difficult, but I've got to learn how to better manage my protein so I'm not ravenous all the time! I fess to gaining 3 lbs in 2+ weeks, and I also fess to eating carbs like they're going out of style. Bread, crackers, tortillas, rice...no bueno! So for the moment, I'm bringing back a bit of dairy and eggs, and really monitoring my hunger and cravings. I don't mind messing up along the way, as long as I'm learning, too.

    Thanks for the comment on my blog! Congrats on being back at it. I know you say all you did was the elliptical, but you made it to the gym which is a feat in and of itself! So go you for making it there AND working out!!! Happy fourth!

    Happy 4th to you too (unfortunately now it's over) You have been way busy!! I congratulate you for trying to do the vegan thing but I don't think it would be for me. There's just certain things I would miss too much. Both of my nieces are vegetarian as opposed to vegan and they eat a large variety of foods. Maybe you might want to consider that instead of being completely vegan and you would have so many more options for protein to choose from.
It's been crazy hot here too. Do you get the humidity in Portland at all. Fortunately, I'm able to be near the water at our summer house when it's this hot. I actually went swimming today, which I haven't done in about two years.... the good news is I remembered how to swim. I kind of hoping it stays hot so I'll still want to go in the lake before it gets too cold again.
