When I was on Weight Watchers years ago, we were told to measure our food to make sure we knew exactly what we were eating. I was a little offended. I knew what 1Tbsp of food looked like! Boy was I wrong! I started measuring most of my food and I was shocked at how much or how little food weighed. I then bought their serving spoons to more easily measure my food. My husband thought I was crazy. I was a little OCD about it, but I measured everything...mind you most of it was crap, but I measured it.
Now I know what was wrong with their program. It was completely built around "you can eat whatever you want". You can't be healthy with that mantra. You aren't gaining a healthy body by eating pepperoni pizza all the time. It's just another gimmick just like low carbs, the grapefruit diet, etc.
Trying to get healthy by eating the same crap you did that helped you gain weight..just less of it, isn't going to get you healthy. You have to learn a healthier way. You have to make a conscious effort to eat better today than you did yesterday. You have to choose to increase your fiber through food, not just supplements and drinks. You have to choose fruits and vegetables over pasta with cream sauce most days. You have to choose to eat a healthy meal before going to get-togethers where you know it will be saucy ribs, mayonnaise based salads and sugary desserts. You have to choose to drink plenty of water instead of Mountain Dew of KoolAid.
Make healthy choices to create a better you. SparkPeople isn't a gimmicky diet. SparkPeople has a ton of resources to teach you to make better choices. So, what are you going to do to create a better you today? We're going to a pool party. Our friends are used to me taking food for me to eat because I don't eat red meat or dairy & as I've said before, dairy is in EVERYTHING. I'm taking watermelon, homemade salsa, tortilla chips and a salad just for me. I'll eat before we get there & drink plenty of water while I'm there.
