Today is day one of my 30-day juice fast. My partner Karen and I are embarking on this journey together and I am so excited to do this with her. Her starting weight is 225 (down from 230 three days ago) and my starting weight is 168 (down from 172 three days ago). Three days ago we started a 3-day mini detox diet from the book Hungry for Change. Essentially it was a plant-only diet to help us minimize detox symptoms during the early days of juice fasting. We'll see if it worked. Our symptoms during those three days ranged from headaches, back pain, bloating, gas, and stomach cramping. Since our diet before the detox was a little dubious, it's not surprising we were ill.
Today we are juicing using recipes I've collected over the past six months. Here is what our day will look like give or take a few substitutions as we may not want the juices in the order I created:
Breakfast: Mean Green 16 oz
Snack: Pepper Punch 8 oz
Lunch: Super Green Detox 16 oz
Snack: The Watering Pineapple 8 oz
Supper: Refreshing Cucumber, Pear and Fennel Juice 16 oz.
1 small cucumber
2 celery stalks
1/4 fennel bulb
1/2 lime, unpeeled
Dessert: Mint Julep 8 oz.
