Deadlift: 135 Lbs

Wednesday, July 03, 2013

I used the Big Girl Plates today! This was a big deal for me - I've been working up to this. I remember when YOOVIE got her big plates what a big deal it was for her. And now here I am too. Boy, I miss YOOVIE.

Anyhoo, I know I have a few lifting friends on SP - any suggestions or notes about what I am doing well would be appreciated. I feel like my shoulders are rounding and my butt isn't low enough, but I don't really know how to go about fixing those things - I am actively trying to straighten my back AND lower my butt while doing it.

Thanks everyone!

PS: It's a lot louder on video than it is at the gym. It just picks it up funny. And the other guy that was there while Airin was recording was totally impressed today!

oh oh oh!!! I just friended you cuz this was FREAKING AWESOME!!! I'm a beginner so what do I know??.. just that my coach tells me to scrape up my shins (without actually scraping).. I don't know about the butt thing.. but it seemed like you "loaded" your hips which is right.. sooooooo IT LOOKED FREAKING AWESOME TO ME! I haven't done my deadlift from the floor yet.. I'm still using the "rickshaw box" to do my deadlifts.. but I did my highest weight last week at 165lbs.. it's FUN! I look forward when I can do them "normal" like you...

Can't help you with technique as I'm not a lifter, but can I say . . . YOU LOOKED AWESOME! Really!

Thanks for sharing this. You really are impressive. Keep it up!

Hugs and smiles.

You nailed it!! You looked freaking awesome! You didn't slam the plates on the ground, your back looked owned those 8 reps!

As I go heavier and heavier, I've focused on getting that first one off the ground by really making sure my butt is up (not lower). I have to force myself to think about leaning back and not forward (My fear is falling backwards...Stasi trainer guy assures me this is highly unlikely with so much weight in front of you)

The other part to make sure my form is right is to keep the bar close to my shins & thighs....almost, but not quite scraping them (I've actually got some bruises and scrapes on shin bone & knee.....apparently those are badges of honor for serious lifters)

In any case, keeping the bar close to your shins ensures that you're lifting straight up and down and not moving your center of gravity too far forward

Great job're now in the big leagues!

I unfortunately cannot help with tips and pointers but I do want to point out that the smile at the end was bee-you-tee-ful. :)

Have a great holiday weekend!
