June Results, July Goals.

Wednesday, July 03, 2013

In June, I met many of my goals. But I did NOT achieve my weight loss goals. Juneís goals were:

1. Work on improving sleep and reducing energy drink consumption: Yes I did this.
2. No alcohol & no sweets: No I did not meet this goal
3. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily: Yes I did this
4. Moderate eating, focus on healthy foods: Did pretty well for my main meals, particularly when I was home. I traveled a lot for work and had to eat out often. End grade: Needs improvement!
5. Exercise daily at least 10 minutes daily. Include higher intensity activities at least 2 x per week: Yes I did this.
6. Stretch at least 3 times per week: I stretched 2 times a week
7. Lose 5 pounds by the end of month: Wow I blew this one big time. I gained 4 pounds. This setback was probably related to not achieving goals 2 & 4!

I am NOT going to let a blip on the scale set me back. I WILL keep with my program of moderate healthy lifestyle changes.

In July I am changing my goals drastically, to try to improve my health and prevent osteopenia from turning into osteoporosis. My goals for July are:

1. Lose 8 pounds. Thatís 2 pounds a week. I need to lose the weight to help control GERD, and I want to have more success with weight loss. I will switch to weekly weigh-ins.
2. Get off the Prilosec & other proton pump inhibiters, and control my GERD through dietary changes. Iíll track GERD attacks
3. Controling GERD will REQUIRE diet changes. No wine or alcohol; no rich desserts; no overeating.
4. Calcium and Vitamin D daily.
5. Weight bearing exercise daily; increase strength training; stretch 2-3 x weekly

I didn't realize that I could add a custom goal and track it on Spark, I chose to track calcium/vitamin D.

When my GERD was bad, I had a large hiatal hernia. Once fixed, I did better even though I got used to watching what I ate and kept that going. I admire your hard work very much. It takes determination and courage to work hard, be honest and set new goals. emoticon I wish you the best in July. emoticon emoticon

    Alison,

I think you did great, considering the traveling thing. It is hard to eat right when traveling. You could go online and check out the restaurants where you will be going. Get information on menus and nutritional facts. Plan out your meals before going. Drink a lot of water before a meal. That will fill you up some and you want be as hungry, if the meal happens to be unhealthier than you want. For sweets keep just a couple of Dove Dark Chocolates on you at work. Reward yourself after a long morning. Keep sugarless gum on hand or sugarfree hard candy. Watch for the fats in that. It can have as much as 5 grams of fat in one piece. Sparkpeople have a couple sweet treats I have made and we love. Zucchini Brownies and Nicole's Cocoa Nut-Buddies. Really good. Or keep one bag of 100 calorie cookies on you. Eat the cookies slowly and enjoy them. If you want to skip the alcohol, ask for sparkling water in a wine glass with a lemon slice. No one will notice that you are not drinking with them. As long as you have a glass of something in your hand. If you must have one. My heart doctor recommends having 1 red wine a day. I don't drink it, but I do cook with it from time to time.
I know you will do excellent this month. You have determination and Moxie. So get out there and go for it. It is great you are setting sensible goals. Good luck! I am here to encourage you if you need it. emoticon emoticon

I like the way you analyze each month's goals and determine how to modify them for the following month. You are much more committed than I have been lately, and I know I have to correct that. Good luck with the GERD. I'm seeing my doctor on Monday and will ask him to schedule a bone density scan.

Enjoy your long week-end,
Gail

You're doing great! You met some goals and you didn't meet some goals, but July is a new month to continue improving. Best of luck!

Congrats on the goals you met. Way to keep a positive attitude about the ones you didn't meet too!
