Journey to a healthy family begins with Mom Day 3

Wednesday, July 03, 2013

Yesterday was a busy day no time to blog. The question for today is How to keep on the journey when life is so hectic you feel like your head is spinning right off? I need to focus on that today because it will be another hectic day for our family. Finding even a moment to get a blog done is a miracle for today. Thanks to my hubby who woke me up an hour early so I can start this extremely busy day. I find that the 1st thing that goes out the window on one of these extremely busy days is my eating. I find that running through a fast food place is easy and quick and then I scarf down my food within a few minutes. Terrible I know. So today I will make sure all my meals and snacks are prepped and ready to go. The second thing is exercise especially when it is warm outside because it kicks my rosacea in high gear. Today the exercise won't be an issue since I have to teach tonight. I also need to look for the blessings in these very busy days instead of complaining.
The biggest blessing for me today is that my work for the state is very flexible and I can start later so I can take my oldest to his summer orchestra practice. I am thankful to have my job instead being furloughed. Even though I get only 15 minutes to get from one job to another today. I am thankful for that short break and then getting paid to exercise is a bonus. Well, I really need to get this day going. Looking forward to the 10pm Fireworks with family and friends.

You sound like you are making progress. First step is identifying the problem areas - it sounds like you have done that (at least begun) and the second step is to make a PLAN to solve the problems. I found that keeping healthy snacks in a cooler in my car, in my purse, my desk at school, in my gym bag, etc. helps to avoid the fast food trap - I have an emergency kit with peanut butter and crackers, mini candy bars, raisins, fresh fruit, water, pretzels, protein, fiber, and granola bars, baby carrots, and a few other treats in single serve packages - (obviously my purse doesn't have the exact same mix as the cooler, but there are a variety of things in each place). Then, if I am too rushed to PLAN for a meal or a snack, I have a variety of things I enjoy that I can create a healthy (or mostly healthy) choice from instead of grabbing fast food or something REALLY unhealthy.

On exercise, there are a few options you can do to make it easier - one is to find things you can do WITH the kids or while doing something else. Walking is exercise, but so are a whole lot of things that are FUN and play with the kids, biking, swimming, playing ball, or whatever.

You rock and having identified the problems are halfway to solving them.
