I have Sparkpeople to thank for my data entry knowledge!

Wednesday, July 03, 2013

After writing my blog last night, I started thinking about why I only needed 1 hour of clinic training on the new on-line client record system. We were all booked to have 2 half days.

emoticon Then it occurred to me that when I first started Sparking 3 and a half years ago I was totally confused at first and it took me ages to move around the system and find out how to track nutrition and fitness. How to access the exercise videos and enter the world of data entry! emoticon emoticon

I am a firm believer in that life events happen for a reason. My 2 years away in Santiago gave me the opportunity to join Sparkpeople and learn this system and make some wonderful Sparkfriends. Little did I realize that what I learnt along the way with Sparkpeople would be so helpful in my work when I came back to Australia.

Because Sparkpeople is such a huge site with so many options it has made it so much easier for me to "get it" with the system at work.

Who would have known that at high school I made a point of not doing the "Commerce" class as I was not interested in being a typist and office worker! I wanted to be a nurse and nurses don't need to type! emoticon So here it is 40 years down the track and what am I doing? Typing at work! emoticon

Just goes to show that one cannot predict the future and one just moves on with the times.

Talking of moving on, I had better move onto bed! emoticon as it is getting late.

Thank you all for your responses, I thought I may have "lost" a few friends due to my lack of support and absence but I was so pleased to read your responses and I will get back to you all over the week. It means a lot to me, thank you.

I took typing in school, just because I liked the idea of being able to do something that might come in handy. Besides, I was good at it.

Here I am, typing away and my kids are totally thrilled to see, that I can type fast. Not like what they are doing. You would think that the schools would offer typing in elementary school since they have computers there to use for them.

Yes, we are here and we missed you and we are totally here for you. You are a gem.

Hugs.

Isn't life surprising? Good thing you had SP to get you computer savvy. I always thought it interesting that I learned sign language 3 years before I had a deaf child. You just don't know what the future holds.

Plus learning new skills keeps your brain active and alert! (Studies have shown that internet searches stave off Alzheimer's and other dementias more than some other activities - cool reason to surf the web, huh?)

It is funny that something we didn't like to do when we were young opens the door for new opportunities as we grow older. I like to think of it as 'Teaching an old dog new tricks'. But we know better. emoticon

Its funny that you mentioned not learning to type in school. I had to choose between art and typing, and since I wanted to be in the art field, I chose art. Little did I know that my love of art would lead to a graphic communications degree, followed by 13 years in newspaper where I had to learn to type. Since then, both jobs have required that I type.

Have a wonderful day! Type on!!!!
