The best part of the summer is that you have so many more hours of sunlight. Which means plenty of time to get out and enjoy the day! I personally am not a fan of heat and humidity so those late sunset hours when the heat starts to relax a bit is when I really put my physical activity into high gear.
This week has been scattered thunderstorms but I still managed to get out for a few walks with my sister. We are fortunate enough to have many parks, walking trails, boardwalks and beaches to explore. The boardwalk at night is particularly fun, they have a bandshell thats always busy, tons of people out and walking or strolling, playgrounds, shuffleboard courts, volleyball courts and minigolf. It reminds me how fortunate I am to live on such a beautiful island with so many free amenities available.
The highlight of my week however was a family BBQ to celebrate my grandma turning 82. The family was able to all come together and have a great time. I was in charge of the menu so there were healthy choices available and it all turned out delicious. Im so lucky to have such wonderful family in my life, especially my Gram Cracker who is such a source of strength to us.
And of course, as always I play with my dog outside and take her to the dog park sometimes as well. This week she did not get to terrorize her dog friends because of the rain but we got in some good running around the yard and fetch. She needs the exercise as well, she is affectionately known in our house as "chubby". She is so hard to put on a diet and say no to though right now since she is on prednisone ( poor baby has cancer but so far has not really had any negative quality of life issues) which makes her feel extra hungry. And seriously, look at that face.... so hard to say no! lol.
I hope everyone else is enjoying the outdoors this summer!
