Thinking about a Zumbatical and More

If you've ever read any of my Zumba blogs, you know just how much I love Zumba. But I'm thinking about taking a bit of a Zumbatical - you know, a sabbatical from Zumba. The hot weather makes me swell. Zumba makes me even more hot. Swelling affects my joints. Hot inflamed joints make for a lot of pain. Trouble is, I can't think of a lot that I would want to do instead.

90% of the time I just do the next thing. If my routine says to have a green smoothie, I have my green smoothie. If it says to avoid the tomato and cheese, I avoid the tomato and cheese. If it says to go to Zumba, I go to Zumba. I'm on an auto-pilot of good choices, which is probably good but I wish I'd see some actual benefit from all of it.

Mainly I'm tired. I think the constant stress of life with chronic pain has caught up to me. I can't lose weight. I've been trying for years on Sparkspeople and nada. I've cut out grains. I've cut out dairy. I've cut out tomatoes and other nightshades. I'm supposed to not have any more inflammation if I do those things. But other than a small decrease in pain from taking away the nightshades and a small decrease in sinus stuff from taking away the dairy and a small decrease in my blood sugar levels from taking away the grains, I haven't seen any huge changes. I wish I could take a sabbatical from all of it.

    So sorry to hear your your having such problems with chronic pain. Yes, I do agree when you have been watching and changing and eliminating food from your diet without any big results---wanting to walk away from it all sounds like an option; with the swelling and more pain added during the hot and muggy summer. Maybe for the summer you should do less Zumba--how about so swimming that is low inpact on your joints, the pools or lake will keep you cooler. Start out with walking in the water, add low pact aeobics in the water and some swimming laps only if it agrees with you. I need to get back to th pool myself as I feel better after soing some water exercise. I haven't been there since we were on vacation---so will need to start out slowly so I don't tire out. Just an idea I'm throwing out as a suggestion. Do take care of yourself, for you and your family.

    Taking a break is always good. Don't know how many times a week you take Zumba but maybe you should take a few less and add a different type of cardio. Take care of yourself.
