You can get all fancy with the whys listing all the stats and the carbs and glutens and the metabolisms but ultimately it boils down to my real issue: I like to eat.
I'm not a junk food addict, nor a sweet tooth. Honestly if you break down WHAT I eat, I do tend to like healthy things! I think it's some kind of joke on humanity though that my little 5'1" almost-40-years-old body naturally is made to run on so 'little' calories that if I didn't hit the gym so hard it's a guaranteed gain.
When I lost ~40 lbs (which is now changed to ~30 due to my regain), I must admit I cut back a 'little' on eating, but not much. I won't lie, my nutrition definitely could have been better, but I put forth extra effort at the gym and that saved me enough to get on a downward trend. Near the end of that though it definitely started stalling. You can only accomplish so much by just improving fitness, and that will take a much longer time than if you attack both ends - fitness AND nutrition.
I trucked hard sweating and pushing at the gym was SOOOOOOO close to goal, and although I've only slid back part of what I lost (gained ~10lbs), this time I am going to try to make more of an effort to the nutrition part. Granted I need to get my gym back up to where it was too, but I don't think that's the main issue for me. I'm sure if I had paid 'more' attention to my nutrition losing that 40 lbs would have went much faster. Perhaps not easier, but faster, which would have made me obviously happier with my results.
Time to redesign my thinking.
#1) No matter how much you eat or waste, it will not help the starving children in the world. I was kinda raised with the mentality not to 'waste' food. That there are people starving out there. By getting fat by always clearing my plate, I do not directly nor indirectly help those folks. So go ahead and waste. Better yet, wrap it up. Throw it out. There is no magic-fairy who will end world hunger because you cleared your plate.
#2) You don't like that "UGH I CANT MOVE" bloated overfull feeling. So stop eating to that point. Save some for later where you can enjoy it a 2nd time.
#3) I can eat whatever I want, but I might not like the results. I am not "DEPRIVING" myself, I can eat anything - but if I choose poorly that means I am choosing food over having a slim healthy body. What do I want more?
