The good news is...

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

I passed my self-defense test with two bruiser, burly police officers and lived to tell the story.

The bad news is--either when I was stomping and kicking one of them or when he caught the back of my ankle and calf while I was trying to get away, I sprained, bruised and generally messed up my right, lower extremity. I did RICE immediately afterward yesterday, so I'm just walking stiff today--not hobbling.

It was a great experience. I feel empowered. We were warned that in real life, where we're not dressed in protective gear (I looked like a Ninja warrior), we're likely to do harm to ourselves while executing the moves necessary to free ourselves. But being injured and alive is a good alternative.

Wow, more powerful than ever. You go girl!!

When I lived in NY a took a much more wimpy self defense that talked about carrying change in your pocket to throw at an assailants face or keys to use as brass knuckles and aim for the eyes. This sounds so much more empowering. Remember the best defense is to run like hell.

I guess you really did pass the test! Sounds like they didn't take it easy on you, but that's good - great preparation if you ever really need to use it! Hope you feel better soon!
