SOUTH BEACH DIET

One of the things I love best is starch and sweets and I find that I don't lose at all when I eat them....even in small quantities.

emoticon This week I am starting the South Beach Diet which has two weeks induction period which is no sweets and carbs...should be interesting and hope I can make it through the 2 weeks emoticon

emoticon Since I have an energy problem and go to sleep tired and wake up tired I am hoping some energy is going to come back since I want to double my exercise since I find what I am pushing to do now is difficult for me each day though I want to do more than I am doing. emoticon

emoticon Today I feel like talking less an doing more will let you all know how I do this week with this new plan.

    I AM A BRITTLE DIABETIC. MY ENDOCRINOLOGIST SAYS THE SOUTH BEACH PLAN IS THE ALL TIME BEST WAY FOR DIABETICS TO LOSE WEIGHT. BUT! DO NOT, I REPEAT NOT, DO THE FIRST TWO WEEKS. GO RIGHT INTO THE STAGE TWO PART WHERE YOU ARE JUST LOOKING TO LOSE WEIGHT. BUY YOURSELF THE COPY OF THE BOOK THAT JUST SHOWS WHAT YOU CAN EAT. (YOU CAN GET IT ON AMAZON.COM OR AT ANY BARNES AND NOBLE BOOK SELLERS. IT IS MUCH SMALLER THAN THE REGULAR BOOK. I STARTED AT 354 AND AM NOW AT 219 AND HAVE HAD A RECENT 15 POUND GAIN. WHY? I AM ON STEROIDS FOR AN INFECTION THAT WON'T GO AWAY. SOUTH BEACH REALLY WORKS AND YOU CAN EAT REGULAR FOOD. I LOVE IT AND WISH YOU THE SAME LUCK I HAVE HAD WITH IT. LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP.

    I've done South Beach and enjoyed it. I think it has a really good balance of low carb and healthy fats. Dropping the carbs is hard the first couple of days, but by day 3 or 4 I find that I stop craving them.

    Don't worry too much about it - just jump in and the two weeks will go by faster than you might think!

You may well have a few days of cravings for starch and sugar, but that, in itself, should tell you something!

If you feel headachey or really fatigued, you might be low on sodium - try a cup of broth and see if that helps. When you cut out starch and sugar your body gets rid of excess water weight, and a lot of salt goes out with the water.

Exercise might be a little harder for the first few days as you switch from fat storage to fat burning, but hang in there. It gets better pretty quickly!

    I think the two weeks to clear your body of carbs and get your craving for them broken is a good help. But the body needs some carbs and sugars to be healthy. I don't know the South Beach diet but be careful not to go without some carbs and natural sugars like what is in fruits for too long. I am not sure any "Diet" works, I have to agree with Spark People on that one. But if its right for you then go for it! You have to make this work for you the best you can!

    That's one I've never been on.

For a while, the Sugar Busters diet was very popular around here...but I didn't try that one either. I like my sweets, and wouldn't want to give them up completely.
