Fresh mint in my tea!

Monday, July 01, 2013

My oh my! I have two outdoor plants: spearmint and rosemary. It is all I can do to look after them. The Texas heat, it was 108 here recently, will fry plants not watered every day. Some days when I am ill or in severe pain it is very hard to fill my watering can and go out to water them. I have an alarm on my phone to remind me. Girl, is that alarm needed!

This morning I cut 8 big, long stems of mint. So fragrant, ummm! I washed them and rubbed them and put them in my tea pitcher. After doing the breakfast dishes I sat down with a tall icy glass of fresh mint tea. Heaven!

If I could I would have a full garden but I am not able because of health issues. So having two plants makes me super happy. I've grown edibles all my life, often with poor results and with my family's derision. There is just a feeling of joy satisfaction when you consume something you have grown.

I'm making a garlic chicken recipe from SP for dinner tonight. It calls for oregano (my delicious oregano plant died last year) t I think I will add some fresh rosemary too. I am going to try grinding the rosemary in the coffee grinder. I read somewhere on the net you can do that. I love the flavor of rosemary but the twigs of it cause my partner problems. I am hoping the grinder works.

I just had a glass of iced tea with fresh mint brought back memories of my grandma. It was lovely. Enjoy your garden.

    Hi bookworm emoticon

I have never had luck with basil. I have a friend who had a huge patch of purple basil that did really well. It was shaded most of the day. Isn't it fun to grow herbs?

I grow rosemary, mint, oregano and sage here in my Texas herb garden. I have a terrible time trying to keep my basil alive in this heat!
