This morning I jumped out of bed and went running. Almost literally - it took me all of 5 minutes to put on some workout gear and grab my keys. At about 0515 I was out pounding the pavement and enjoying a beauiful morning. While running, I came up with some reasons why I should run in the mornings forever more:
1. It's not blazing hot out. Of course, it's 90 degrees, but for this place, especially compared to 120+, that is a nice, cool morning.
2. It's not dusty. There are less vehicles out on the roads to stir up the moon dust, and the wind is relatively calm.
3. There are people slower then me out on the trail. And that is motivation as far as I am concerned.
4. I can accomplish so much STUFF between my workout and time to go to work! I took a nice long shower, organized my laundry, made my bed, talked to my roommate, took my laundry to the cleaners' and still made it to breakfast - WIN!
And, reason #5 for me to run early in the morning... Because I actually get it done. In the evenings it is really dark on some stretches of the track, and I don't like running with my headlamp, so I head to the treadmill in the gym instead. If I get my run out of the way first thing in the morning, I can do the weights and yoga in the evening and not have to worry about running. I also don't get to invent excuses for why I can't go running tonight (too tired, its sand storming, I don't feel like it, etc).
So, my goal for the next few weeks is to run in the mornings outside at least 3 times a week. Should be hopefully do-able, especially this week, since I got an AM 5K on the 4th of July, so that takes care of run #2. Wish me good luck!
In other news, I found a great trick to killing sugar cravings - green tea with cardamom! Grind up a bit of cardamom in a coffee grinder and add to your tea. The amazing aroma will take your mind off sweets... worked for me, there are two bags of brownies sitting on our "snack desk", and I've not partaken yet.
In conclusion... I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who read and commented on my blog. I didn't expect anyone to look at it, and I appreciate your support. Thank you, and have a wonderful Monday!
