On September 1st, 2013 at 0800 hours, I'll be starting my first official 5k walk/run event ever. I've agreed to join Euphrates when she does the "Cheetah Run" at Ohio's own Cincinnati Zoo. Today I turned in a time of 56:54 for 3.2 miles, which means I can at least walk the entire route.
It will be Euphrates Third year at the event and I'm kinda jazzed. I means I'll have to step up my training to at least keep up with her, but Friday we're going shoe shopping, and I'll be buying my first pair of running shoes ever.
I'm going to be in my first actual 5k event, in real running shoes of my own, after having trained a bunch in the roughly two months before the event. I'm so jazzed to even consider this possible, let alone be actually taking this step. I'm not going to race, I'm not going to win, I'm going to show up and complete it! If it's raining on training days - well it just doesn't matter. If I don't feel like it, well it just doesn't matter... You get the idea. I have my friend and Author Angela Hunt to thank for my new mantra "It Just Doesn't Matter" because what does matter to me is showing up, and completing the event.
If you want to read what is in my opinion, THE book to read about getting to your first event, then you want to read "Running With The Moon" by Angela Hunt.
