...and everyone's bright light still shines!

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Many of us who are on the road to health have experienced verbal abuse somewhere along the road in our lives. Often, when people see a light that burns brightly, their own insecurities within cause them to want to burn out those whose spark could light up a room. Maybe they succeed in dimming the light for a while but once rekindled, the light burns brighter than before! emoticon

Maybe it was one comment that irked you or maybe it was a lot more than that. Maybe it was the way it was said or maybe it was not what was said but something that caused your light to dim for a while.

That's okay. A light can always be rekindled and if not, all you have to do is change the light bulb. It may not be as simple, but it'll happen. emoticon

Here is an original poem that represents overcoming words that haven't spoken kindly. *This definitely isn't my best poem but it is definitely a representative one.

Hope you enjoy it.

"Golden Embers"

Embers fall into my shadow
remains of all the yesterdays that don't define me
For every dark cloud, something gold always lines what's behind
the rain that settles into the mud
and I'm strong
and you can't take away my happiness

Words can cut but they don't have to bleed
Space in my mind is already occupied
Raised the rent & I am sticking to it
Embers turn into dust from the fire you started
and you play arsonist like a pianist plays Mozart
don't know the degree of the damage
but the smoke has cleared
and I'm standing here
Bet your never thought I could handle the heat

changed but my spirit
wasn't stolen by the flames
Feel a little bruised, refuse to feel burned
Grateful for everything I have learned

Lay my head upon a pillow
and it gives me peace to know
every light within still burns beautifully,
brighter than before
there's the gold I was looking for!

*Don't allow words to get the best of you. Just because they roll off of somebody's tongue and out of their mouth doesn't mean they ring true. It can be a challenge not to internalize it but what people say and how they act is reflection of who they are, not a reflection of who you are!

It can be hard to let go of words that might have hurt you. Whether intentional or not, words can hurt. I've chosen to rise above those words and not let them keep me down. It looks like you are doing the same. Good for you! emoticon

It is really hard when people we trust and love don't treat us with respect, let alone support. It's hard enough when strangers bully us, but when it's our family members it makes it even harder on us. I hope you've found the strength inside of yourself and chose how you want to handle the situation. You have plenty of light within you, and you deserve great things. Keep that light turned up bright and be true to who you are.
