I just read quite a few of the posts on a thread about planning for "bad food" days. I have found the nutrition tracker to be so helpful in this situation, as well as the recipe calculator. For example, I knew that my husband's birthday was coming up. He always wants me to make him a certain cake from scratch. It's a yellow cake, with lemon filling, seven minute frosting, and toasted coconut sprinkled over it. It goes along with my homemade vanilla ice cream. Several weeks ago I entered the recipes for both, gasped at the amount of calories, and then planned ahead. With the aid of the nutrition tracker I was easily able to plan in a piece of cake and a serving of ice cream today, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Most of the remainder of my carbs for the day were vegetables, to be sure, and I had chicken breast on my salad. But I was able to enjoy this special day and special treat while still staying in my limits and getting plenty of good nutrition. And, unlike the past when I would eat MORE cake the same night, and then have it for breakfast (and maybe lunch and dinner the next day), I am done now.
