About mid April I realized I had tight hip flexors, tried to stretch them, and strained something in my upper thigh, I still don't know exactly what. Then I kept walking on the injury until I couldn't walk any more.
I went to an orthopedist, who misdiagnosed the condition as arthritis instead of a soft tissue injury and sent me to a physical therapist.
The physical therapist did a better diagnosis but couldn't treat it properly because by that time, about mid May, I had developed polymyalgia rheumatica (google PMR), a painful condition that wasn't diagnosed and treated until mid June. I'm now being treated with prednisone and the pain is almost under control.
Meanwhile shortly after I started physical therapy I had a possible heart attack and was admitted to the hospital for half a day. It wasn't a heart attack but the hospital admission counted as a "change of state" that canceled all physical therapy orders and future appointments. I haven't gone back to the orthopedist but I just started carefully doing some of the exercises the physical therapist showed me.
It has been more than two months since my last workout. I have lost strength and I lost five pounds I didn't want to lose. If I have to walk any distance I walk with a cane.
I will get through this.
