Six miles!

I did it, I pushed myself to run six miles this morning. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I was going to try this Friday after work but unexpected rain rolled through and I cut it down to four miles. I have to say, it was kind of fun to run in the rain for a few blocks, I felt like a kid for a few minutes.

DH went out on a group motorcycle ride this morning. I am on call for work so I had to stay behind. After he left early this morning, I grabbed my coffee and the remote ready to settle in for some veg time. But I said to myself, "okay, let's do this", and got dressed to run.

It was a bit windy in spots, making me tire out. I had to keep telling myself this is good training for the 10K I will be doing in November along Lake Shore Drive (Chicago, Il).

After three miles, I was toast with the wind so I made a deal with myself, go ahead and walk for a few seconds at the end of each song, then pick it back up. That worked really well. The last half mile was very difficult. I tried a trick to distract myself that I learned during the SP four-week stress busting challenge. I looked around and identified colors of the trees, cars houses, anything I saw around me. That helped.

When I got home, my Labrador was anxiously awaiting her 20-minute walk. Ugh! I got that done and then I did the SP nine-minute seated upper body video, then a wonderfully long shower.

I was all set to sit and read when DH sent me a text message that the people he was riding with were coming back to our house. Ugh! Thanks to the SP Flylady team, I didn't have too much to do to make the house welcoming.

I finally sat down to read my book in the back yard with a cup of green tea. It's a beautifully mild, sunny day here in the Chicago area.

DH came home alone. Everybody decided to head home. So it will be a nice, quiet evening before the crazy work week begins again.

    Congratulations! Lucky to have Lake Shore Drive as a route.
We were in Chicago only once (2011) for a wedding and I planned to run along the lake. I was turned back by the POLICE. It was too windy. Runners and bikers were being knocked over by crashing waves. It was even on the national news. Just my luck.

LOVE your "trick...looked around and identified colors of the trees, cars houses, anything" - I'm borrowing this from you. This makes sense and I can tell already that it's a terrific idea in many situations!

    Kellie, that's a great run! I noticed that if I get tired after thirty minutes on my bike, it helps to pedal slowly for a minute or so. Then it's easier to pick up the pace again. I've done that on the elliptical as well. It really helps physically and mentally.
