So I just wrote a giant 'welcome aboard' post to a new sparker but I wanted to post the just of what I had written. I feel like I owe a giant part of where I am today to SparkPeople for getting me going on the right track and opening my eyes to what I was or wasn't doing.

SparkPeople is such a great community! Other members blogs and personal stories r seriously beyond motivating - I'm coming up on 3rd spark anno and I can still say the same! When I first joined I had NO CLUE how total strangers could be so motivational and in turn find that you will motivate other total strangers w/o even realizing it! SparkPeople really tries to impress that it's not about finding another diet or program - it's about a healthy lifestyle overall. I still struggle w this concept - Making concious choices day in and day out and having faith that all those little choices add up for results.

I have found it sooooo important to find something you really love and maybe even something to train for. Training and improving on your previous stats and PRs is always so motivating in itself. I will say though - there are sooooooo many different varieties of fitness, don't be afraid to try something new and bring yourself out of your comfort zone! When I first joined, I started w Jillian micheals 30 day shred (9$ @ Walmart BTW) - I had always tried to be a 'gym girl' but found myself usin the elliptical for like 15 mins, tanning n then leaving.

My sister pushed me to try out a kickboxing class she had found and just like that I was in love! I started out one day a week, moved on to 2 days - eventually threw in an extra hr on one of those days.... Fast forward 4 years later - I now teach kickboxing tues n thurs and also take additional classes on mon & weds - 2 hrs of KB and Zumba!

My point is some people love hot yoga or spinning or crossfit but you never know what you'll fall in love with! Keep an open mind, fuel your body with healthy foods (easier said than done but eventually it's another hAbit), and have faith that all the little choices you make will add up and reward u!

Happy sparking! - Ash

I totally agree. When I joined, I had no expectations of what the community had in store for me. Wonderful folks from around the world.

Great advice! I need to follow it - sometimes I am afraid of trying something new and end up loving it. You've inspired me!

I love zumba and kickboxing. So impressed that you're actually teaching classes. I tend to stick to the same thing that I'm used to so emoticon for the reminder to keep trying new things. This last week I kind of fell off the wagon so loved reading your blog as I'm getting back in gear. Have a great week! emoticon
