Pain Today,Gotta Keep Going

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Woke with a terrible migraine this morning.Sometimes for me,coffe does work. But it didnt this time. emoticon I know that aged cheeses are a trigger so I wondered if the smoked mozzerella I had last night may have kicked in....but it's mozzerella....not cheddar emoticon . I'm currently on Topomax, and I was taking 100mg until I complained to my Dr. that the memory loss was taking a toll on my life. So he cut the dosage in half..back to 50mg. Now the pain is worse and headaches more common. emoticon

This weekend is my weekend to work and I missed half my shift in bed trying to get rid of this thing....which never happened. emoticon

So here I am working and trying to get through it nauseous as heck, hoping no one yells at me...cause I thing I might die emoticon emoticon

My friend, I totally understand. I was on the same med and it caused me more trouble than I could have imagined! I couldn't balance a checkbook, remember if I had taken my meds for the day, remember the due dates on my bills, or even remember my own craft patterns without notes!! After almost 2 years of adjusting doses, I finally begged my neuro to take me off it. I'm managing to get most of my brain function back (thank God!).

I take verapamil (its a great dual purpose med for me, blood pressure and migraine control in 1 pill!) for maintainance and I use Amerge for acute (aka RAGING) migraines. I also get the severe nausea, so have compazine for that. Everyone's migraines are different, though. For some people IMITREX works well, for me, it makes things worse.

Just keep talking to your dr until something works! (And dehydration can be a HUGE trigger, especially in warmer weather. Even if you are nauseated, keep sipping water. Ice cold water works well for me as long as I sip and don't try guzzling)

Hope there are fewer migraines in the future (for both of us!)

Are you drinking enough water? You can check out this handy dandy hydration calculator - http://nutrition.about.com/library/

I hope you're feeling better.

So sorry to hear about your migraines. I used to get them too but had an allergy to about every migraine medication out there, so then we tried Cymbalta. I have been migraine free for 3 years!

I read this past week that since our brains are 80-90% water that headaches can be a sign of water deficiency. The article recommended that you be sure you are well hydrated when you are experiencing headaches. Something to think about!

I understand your pain, I have migraines as well. Can you take Excedrin Migraine? It really helps me when I get them. I hope it goes away soon.
