Splendid Sunday

It's been a while since I posted a blog and I don't have much going on but I hate to let too much time pass between posts or, like other things, I'll just let it go altogether.

That has definitely been the case with exercise as I look back over my past workout history. I have found that if I miss more than a couple of days in a row of working out it can be weeks or even months until I get back to it again. Guess it's like the saying goes, a body in motion stays in motion while a body at rest stays at rest.

When I stumbled across SPARKPEOPLE back in March of this year I was searching for some way to start exercising again and to keep the motion and momentum going. You know what? It has! I thrive on structure and accountability and that is something that SP provides in so many ways! I can't say enough about how good it feels to be working out consistently and wanting to work out sometimes not just knowing I should or have to. There are days when it just doesn't feel right not to take advantage of an opportunity to walk or do a few extra reps with those free weights.

This weekend I am working but I made a point yesterday of getting up and walking for a few minutes each hour. After work we had plans with my family so it was imperative that I get those few minutes of walking in every hour while I had the chance. Those mini walks meant that I logged 7000 steps on my Fit Bit. Not the 10,000 I was aiming for but probably 5000 more than I would have gotten in had I not consciously made the effort.

I am working again today and what a treat it was during my lunch hour to venture outside and walk around the man-made lake behind my office. There I saw a blue heron fishing alongside a father and his two small kids, a couple of old guys with their remote controlled sailboats, which were just beautiful gliding on the surface of the lake. An older couple and their grown daughter sharing a picnic, a couple of young lovers doing what young lovers do, and a small flock of new ducklings and their mama happily swimming along. Not only did I get some steps in but I got a great big dose of happy in the process!

Better get back to work now but it feels good to have the chance to check in and say hey! Hope that you are having a splendid Sunday!

    I thrive on structure and routine too!

    Walking a bit each hour is a great idea. Experts say that small increments of exercise are just as beneficial as one long workout session. I'll have to give it a try on my busy days when I think I "don't have time" to workout.
